Sigh-Anne.

I thought the woman was mispronouncing Sian, then saw the name written down. Sigh-Anne. I mean, what on earth...?

the other was a little boy called Ragen. As in Ronald Regan, but Ragen. Ragen? I am not a name snob, but I do draw the line at deliberately misspelling surnames and then using them as a first name! Grin

Larch is quite nice, but surely you are always going to be known as Number 5 (The Larch) (or I'm showing my age Blush

Petalouda · 23/01/2011 14:04

just found this thread and love it! Shame I live in the arse end of pretty much nowhere and haven't come across many weird names.

Although I went to school with an Adonis (I think he's of polynesian descent, although I could be wrong) he carried it off well!

My sister nearly called her new son Korben.

I teach a Chardonnay, who is lovely, but I heave a little sigh every time I take the register!

We've had a Marley in school, but I didn't have the pleasure of his company. He wasn't with us long.

I quite like Larch. And I've heard of a Cedar too, which I think is lovely.

Which makes my first choice for ours (due march) quite tame, really!

My Mum went on holiday to Uganda as a child, and the children living in the house next door were called 'Electricity' and 'Margarine' - seriously!

A classic case of using a name that you like the sound of but have no idea of the meaning!

nannynobnobs · 22/01/2011 18:43

There is a Korben at Dd2's nursery... I love it :o
Hebe was on my longlist for DD2. DH saw it and said "HEEB? What sort of name is Heeb?"

4andnotout · 22/01/2011 18:43

Blade

This was way before Jordan and her Princess Tia-cockamamie or whatever the poor kid is called.

A friend told me of a (non-English speaking) woman who had named her daughter Iloveny.

She had seen it on a T-shirt and thought it was really pretty Grin
