Sigh-Anne.

I thought the woman was mispronouncing Sian, then saw the name written down. Sigh-Anne. I mean, what on earth...?

the other was a little boy called Ragen. As in Ronald Regan, but Ragen. Ragen? I am not a name snob, but I do draw the line at deliberately misspelling surnames and then using them as a first name! Grin

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I know a chap called Larch (also know - adults - called Willow, Aspen, & Oaks).

I have begun to wonder how many of these mad baby names are simply misunderstandings since my mother misheard my SiL's new baby's name over the phone & then went and told all her friends he was called Pond.

He actually has a perfectly normal name Grin. But as my mum says, if you can be called River (Phoenix), why not Pond . . .

i think Miffy 'may' be short for Myfanwy. I know a Fox..but Vodafone??!!!!!!!
have , however, met a Vienetta. (or however the dessert is spelt)

GnomeDePlume · 25/01/2011 20:47

I think the new names are great, so much better than when I was at school and the choice of names could be written on the back of a postage stamp.

I think that Hebe is the plant group Veronica so perhaps not silly at all.

loopyloo82 · 25/01/2011 20:44

My mum has taught a Vodafone and a Toffee Wolf.
Honestly.

babysickstinks · 25/01/2011 20:40

DH has taught a Fox, Red and Cub (all brothers)

Also been through the school are k-see (girl) Draco, Senna, Loki, Keyara-bo, Angel-onassis (sp) and a Priscilla who has always been called Prissy for short.

DH doesn't teach in a very classy area.

ladymarian · 25/01/2011 20:39

LOL at Miffy!! My DD loves Miffy but I don't think I would call a child that!

I have heard of a Skye-Blue and Misty - both girls I think but you never know....

rolandweary · 25/01/2011 20:38

Neasden

GeorgeEliot · 25/01/2011 20:35

Lots of american cousins have silly names.

We have a Thurry, Jet, Micayah, Van.

What is going to happen when they grow up and have real jobs? Possible in the media, or politics?

Actually I guess Barack is an unusual name so maybe a silly name does not rule you out from holding high office.

lololizzy · 25/01/2011 20:33

my mum used to own a playgroup and had several Neo s

KaraStarbuckThrace · 25/01/2011 20:29

Dh works with a Newby. Apparently itis short for New Baby!!!

asdx2 · 25/01/2011 19:26

As a teacher the worst named child I have ever taught was Deejay!
There was a Deejay at my dd's last school. Mum was very upset when school insisted he had to write Deejay on his work because she wanted him to just use the abbreviation DJ (apparently the registrar insisted that she couldn't have DJ on his birth certificate)

takethatlady · 25/01/2011 19:18

Lynx. After the aftershave. His brother is called Chicane. No kidding.

smithylovesme · 25/01/2011 18:42

Ahardmanisgoodtofind · 24/01/2011 21:22

JemimaMop · 24/01/2011 20:18

I know of a girl called Senna, apparently named after Ayrton, but I have a horrible feeling that as she gets older there will be lots of jokes about laxatives!

blackchloe · 24/01/2011 20:07

As a teacher the worst named child I have ever taught was Deejay! Why?

crystalglasses · 24/01/2011 20:05

Ive taught a jhonnee (Johnny) and an Elf - at first I though I'd misheard and his name was Alf, but no.

Fimbo · 24/01/2011 18:59

I saw one in the local rag - Lucinder surely it should have been Lucinda?

Also heard a wee tot getting called Rooney.

lololizzy · 24/01/2011 18:54

Clare. Not because it's nutty in any way...it's lovely. Just that it's such a normal name (and from my childhood) to be on a little girl these days!

lololizzy · 24/01/2011 18:35

Araminta. i know it's an old fashioned name but it still makes me go Hmm

Nightstar · 24/01/2011 17:34

I've heard Larch as well, and I always think of Monty Python too:

And now for something completely different - The Larch!

I have to say I loathe the name Regan. Always makes me think of the exorcist and that poor girl f-ing herself with a cross, her head turning round and green vomit spraying everywhere - I mean, really how could anyone want that association with their child? But maybe it means something completely different to others.....

My favourite was a guy at Uni called Badger. Its not that odd compared to many on here, but genuinely his real name.

lololizzy · 24/01/2011 16:56

John-Joseph but as in 'get here John-Joseph you little **er' by very scary chavmum
Shock
