One of my friends has just found out she is expecting identical twins. The gender will be found out at the next scan hopefully.
Does anyone have any nice suggestions?

I've been trying to think if nice pairings, that aren't too matchy. How about Royal names:

Alexandra and Mary, Katharine and Anne, Elizabeth and Charlotte, Isabella and Elinor: James and Alexander, George and Charles, Richard and William.

Or saints and the Bible:

Martha and Helen, Jemima and Mary, Susannah and Tabitha, Eve and Keziah: Peter and Timothy, Paul and Nathan, Daniel and James, Samuel and Joshua.

Probably so the younger would be the first in somwthing, if only alphabetically.

The advice given to a friend who had identical boys was the older one got the shorter name closest to the end of the alphabet. Not sure why, I think it was due to people possibly making a fuss about the eldest.

Alice and Lucy

Abigail and Penelope

James and Alexander

Patrick and Rory

Those are names I like and think fit together without being too cutesy.

What sort of names would your friend like? Traditional, unusual, short, long, trendy, Biblical? Would be good to have something to go on.

Just choose two names that you like. I have ID twins, and their names are not in any way matching. We didn't even consider it. We know a fair few twins as well, and no one does matchy names - eek.

JojoMags has it right.

Paris would be much better with something like Hector or Lysander. I think you'd get away with a Greek myth pairing like that, but would be wary of more modern ones (like Henry and Peter, or Thomas plus any other engine, or Rachel and Kirsty).

I agree that it is better to have separate initials and names that aren't matchy-matchy.

countydurhamlass · 19/01/2011 21:16

i agree jojo, i would however keep them either both very traditional or both unique, rather than having one with a traditional name like Sophie or Peter and one with a name like Brook or Paris.

JojoMags · 19/01/2011 21:07

I would go for names that start with different letters, have a different number of syllables and do not rhyme.
