Really love Cameron as either a middle or first name for our baby if it's a boy but it according to the mumsnet babyname finder it's common and council estates were mention Confused

It's my gran's middle name (she's scottish and was her mother's maiden name- scottish tradition apparently) and it would mean alot to her if the baby had Cameron in there somewhere as DD has a family name for a middle name from my other grandparents.

The common factor doesn't bother me exactly (we're not exactly posh) but don't really want by as yet unborn baby being written off as a chav. Or it being assumed that I vote Tory (I'm not a tory hater or supporter but my dad will take the piss as it is).

We have a Cameron (boy aged about 12) in our extended family. Completely un-chav, his Father is a Hamish.

Not Chavvy, but agree with Beamur re david connections. Hopefully they won't last forever though Grin

Beamur · 18/01/2011 18:49

Its my DSS middle name, but the David PM connection would poison it for me at the moment! Shame really as its a fine name.

BikeRunSki · 18/01/2011 18:47

David is first thing that springs to min.

Then chav.

Went to school with a Kamaran.

It clearly spans the social spectrum!

usualsuspect · 18/01/2011 18:46

I love it, I know one ...hes not a chav

hate that bloody word

perpetuallypregnant · 18/01/2011 18:45

My son (14) is Cameron. We are not in the slightest bit chavvy :)

I only know of one other and he isn't a Chav either.

I still love the name and he's never had a bad comment about it.

talkingnonsense · 18/01/2011 18:42

And it is an anagrams of romance! I love it.

pissedrightoff · 18/01/2011 18:38

I have a girl named Cameron. I don't feel it is a chav name at all (of course) just a lovely Scottish name.

Lots of boys named Cameron here in Scotland.

anonymosity · 18/01/2011 18:34

NIghtfury I think I may know the same Cameron!

That aside, I have always thought it suits a girl better.

NightFury · 18/01/2011 18:19

I know a young Cameron (3 yo). His favourite music is Handel's Messiah. He and his family are definitely not common.

mangoandlime · 18/01/2011 18:07

I only know one, a very respectable family they are as well. Not a hint of chavtastic about them.

goodkarmaisrunninglate · 18/01/2011 18:06

Know of several Camerons. All chavs, sorry!

onimolap · 18/01/2011 17:59

I think of it as also a girls' name (eg Diaz) - are you OK with unisex?

I think the David association is fairly inevitable - for now at least.

CoteDAzur · 18/01/2011 17:55

I know two Camerons - one lives in London & parents are manager at accounting firm and human rights barrister. The other one lives in Monaco, and has a very wealthy family.

So no, I wouldn't associate the name with "chav".
