We're stuck between these for our list, so need opinions.

Edith wouldn't be shortened. Which of these is most popular?

Edith and Esther too old lady for me, Verity's lovely though.

AllieW · 27/01/2011 17:37

Verity is gorgeous! Love it. Not so keen on Esther or Edith, although Edie does improve the latter a bit.

dubaipieeye · 27/01/2011 16:01

Esther just makes me think of Esther Ranson tbh. Not terribly helpful or relevant to your DDs generation though!

thecoffeelady · 27/01/2011 15:58

I love Edith, DD1 is Edith nn Edie.

We have Edith Sarah Anne and a Nancy Elizabeth Rose

Hatterbox · 24/01/2011 22:01

Esther would get the nod from me.

cece · 24/01/2011 21:54

DS2 was going to be Verity.

So go with Verity. Smile

darleneconnor · 24/01/2011 21:51

I love Verity.

Verity30 · 24/01/2011 21:46

My name is Verity and I can say that I have loved it and it is the one thing I get the most compliments on (and cannot be shorted or teased!)

highlystrung · 19/01/2011 10:29

Verity

A1980 · 18/01/2011 22:33

I don't like any of them.

Esther and Edith are old granny names. Too old sounding for a little girl.

Verity is the name of the PCOS charity!

brillopads · 18/01/2011 21:23

OP I know you said Edith wouldn't be shortened but I've just finished reading "A Dark-adapted Eye" (Barbara Vine) and a character in that was Edith shortened to Eden ?

ValiumSilverTongue · 18/01/2011 17:55

I think Edith overall because Edie is nice. Verity is beautiful but Vair isn't an obvious shortening. Verrie?

Esther is elegant and strong but I probably wouldn't pick it myself.

BR44 · 18/01/2011 17:25

Esther!

Wigeon · 18/01/2011 13:26

Esther by a long way.

Edith - old lady and not in a good way.

Verity - meaning of the name is too much to live up to. Don't think my mum ever liked her name (Felicity) for the same reason.

Rhubarbgarden · 18/01/2011 13:09

Love Esther and Edith. Verity makes me shudder.

I like Esther best. Then Verity and lastly Edith.

mathanxiety · 18/01/2011 06:10

Esther by a long shot.

AbsofCroissant · 17/01/2011 17:22

Esther

Edith sounds a bit too old lady for me, and I have issues with a woman called Verity.

SlightlyJaded · 17/01/2011 17:20

Verity - lovely

Although I love Edith too - even shortened to Edie

usualsuspect · 17/01/2011 17:19

Esther...Edith is awful

Minione · 17/01/2011 17:16

Esther, definitely

PlanetLizard · 17/01/2011 16:51

They're all nice names. I'd pick Edith or Esther.

headinspin · 17/01/2011 16:36

i really like Edith; I know a few Esther's (middle aged) - and I can't stand Verity - always seems prim and proper to me and holier than thou being named after a virtue

PuppyMonkey · 17/01/2011 16:26

They're all nice names, but I like Esther best and it's certainly not very common where I live.
