What do you think of Elodie.

I've mentioned it to one or two people. Big mistake! The reactions haven't been great, they've also not heard of it before and mixed it up and misheard for Melody.

Beautiful name Smile

3boysgirlontheway · 22/02/2012 17:03

I love it, but, it is terrible with our surname. It sounds like Nelly the Elephant when they run together :)

MrsBovary · 22/02/2012 11:34

Not my taste, but it's fine and is well liked on here. I didn't know it was very unusual, though can't recall where it is in stats.

PestoPenguin · 21/02/2012 22:22

I absolutely LOVE this. I also like Eleri and Eleni.

Sadly none of them go with our surname Sad

I've asked this before, but why is this name all the rage on here? Where have people heard it? Is there some celeb who has brought it to prominence? I knew someone back in the 80s who called their daughter Elodie (this was in France) and I had never heard the name before, nor have I come across it since. Yet it regularly crops up on MN. How come? Confused

Frikadellen · 21/02/2012 16:12

I like it a lot we considered it for dd3 but as we have an Eloisa it was a bit to close.

scarletforya · 21/02/2012 15:29

I think it's gorgeous Really feminine!

I have an Elodie, but I am French so I pronounce it the French way. Agree with other comments - my French family thinks it is an awful, old-fashioned name but my English friends and my husband's English family like it. I do find it a little strange if you name your daughter Elodie and she won't be able to speak French though. I would love to have a boy called Joao but I don't speak Portuguese so think that would be weird!

Rhubarbgarden · 18/01/2011 17:48

I know a little baby Elodie. She's half French. I think it's lovely.

Chocolocolate · 18/01/2011 10:41

I have a friend with that name who's 23. It's a gorgeous name. She still always gets complimented on it.

Bue · 18/01/2011 10:30

quand est ce que tu rentres a la maison?

When the wife returns my keys to me and stops threatening to kill me.

One down side to a French girls name is the reputation that French women have for being "high maintenance" :).

My daughter is named Elodie.

It only barely scrapes into the top 200 French girls names and the reaction from the French side of the family (my wife is French) is that it is perceived as old fashioned. The sister in-law positively hates the name.

The Brits though love the name and as she is growing up in England it is okay. Only issue we had so far was after the birth my Uncle who is going deaf passed on the message to his family that she was called Elegy. We got half a dozen cards with that name on.

I suggested the name initially to the wife after having had a fried of 16 years with the name who I still am very close to.

My friend abbreviates her name on her autosignature on emails to L.O.D

Sigh....... When will this craze for EL names end?

Secretwishescometrue · 17/01/2011 17:28

If you have French connections it's lovely.

Starsandcars · 17/01/2011 17:08

I love the name and have considered it - my only concern would be that it's likely to be shortened to el which I am not so keen on.

DurhamDurham · 17/01/2011 16:43

I think it's beautiful, v girly Smile

ComeAlongPond · 17/01/2011 16:41
