Any thoughts?

I wrote on an earlier thread that I was thinking of using it for DD2 and thought I'd open up it's own thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My friend has a little girl called Queenie - she's 4 now and totally gorgeous. Her dad is Japanese and it's a name that apparently is easy for both cultures :)

fallingandlaughing · 18/01/2011 20:28

Queenie is a fat tabby cat who gets fed Sheba instead of "normal" cat food.

She is not a child. Please - imagine having to introduce yourself as "Queenie". Do you want your child to hate you?

CoteDAzur · 18/01/2011 17:21

Not OK, ever, not even as a middle name.

MardyBra · 18/01/2011 17:17

Poor OP, it's not going well is it?

Sorry to add another negative image, but my first thought was old lady sitting in a nursing home smelling faintly of wee.

spiderlight · 18/01/2011 17:14

The only Queenie I've ever met was an elderly and very fat pony with bad feet. Sorry.

swanandduck · 18/01/2011 16:54

It is a truly awful name. Reminds me of an old fashioned char lady or a game old bird running an eastenders pub.

deliakate · 18/01/2011 13:45

I will have to add my no - OK for a nn maybe, but not to my taste

FranSanDisco · 18/01/2011 13:38

Used to be my mumsnet nn many moons ago as I loved the character in Black Adder. I would use it for a cat but not a child, sorry.

kerala · 18/01/2011 13:36

As someone who likes most old lady names I think this is pretty bad. Just awful how could you hold a tiny newborn and say "this is Queenie". To me its the name of a turn of the century prostitute sorry.

I was at a village fete with my mum who bumped into an acquaintance out with her newborn granddaughter who was called Queenie - granny was clearly deeply unimpressed with the name as was everyone else that heard it. So a definite no no in the 60 plus generation I think Grin.

1234ThumbScrew · 18/01/2011 13:12

My great aunt had it as her middle name and I always loved it, maybe better as a middle name?

LetThereBeRock · 18/01/2011 13:07

I just hate them. I think they're ugly names,and just awful,though I realise I'm in a minority there.

BuntyPenfold · 18/01/2011 13:06

I picture that over-privileged short woman in the pearls and cardi.

thebrownstuff · 18/01/2011 13:03

lol @queenie
what's wrong with ruby and ivy? Confused

LetThereBeRock · 18/01/2011 12:59

It is worse than Ruby and Ivy imho, and I hate both of those names.

I'm still picturing a Dickensian prostitute.

BuntyPenfold · 18/01/2011 11:50

It's no worse and old-lady than Grace, Ruby or Ivy though.

Dear god no it's a terrible name for a child.

expatinscotland · 17/01/2011 20:55

It's an animal name.

jojosmaman · 17/01/2011 20:54

I think I may have mentioned this once before but I knew a queenie once. She was in her 60's, had a peroxide blonde beehive and she used to walk around the streets pushing a shopping trolley whilst carrying a bottle of red wine and telling people to f$ck off.

That's a no from me.

blackcoffee · 17/01/2011 20:53

Lovely ..for a carthorse

bronze · 17/01/2011 20:52

Made me think of Lark Rise

magnolia1970 · 17/01/2011 20:52

Wow I'm surprised by the responses. I had a great aunt born circ 1900 called Queenie and have always liked it. Her sisters were called Ruby and Eliza so I've always linked it to those names. Funny hearing how other people view it i.e. a bit try hard.

mannicmummyhavinaiccy · 17/01/2011 20:51

I Love it, can just imagine a cute little toddler called Queenie :) very cute!

tiredfeet · 17/01/2011 20:45

Noooo.
would just make me think the parent was a bit to hung up on needing a 'unique' name for their child

SarfEasticated · 17/01/2011 20:45

I like it. Wouldn't use it myself, but would think it was a lovely name for a little girl. Like Ruby and Ivy I think. It was always meant to be a nickname though, so maybe use it as a NN
