I have been thinking about the name Victoria for a while.
What do you think?
I love the name Queenie, but could not put it on the birth certificate, so thought this would be an option that would allow that nn. I also love the name Victoria (the name of a very dear childhood friend), and there is the added bonus of the nn Plum.
I do hate Vicky, Tori and vic though.
Would love some thoughts on Victoria please!
Her sisters would be Iris and Pearl and brothers AMos and Eli. Thanks

Victoria is lovely.

Plum is stupid.

purpleiris · 16/01/2011 23:25

The baddy from the Twilight saga, sorry!!

brittan76 · 16/01/2011 22:23

I find it hard not to say it in a Posh Spice fashion. Queenie's not a name I like either I'm afraid.

A1980 · 16/01/2011 22:07

No one is going to bother to say it. I'm an Alexandra and people are so damn lazy that at work they even write my name as Alex in correspondence. It drives me crazy!

It also lost it's posh factor with Vicky in Eastenders in the 80's and then with Vicky Pollard.

Im a victoria and my mother calls me plum - i love it Grin my brother does however call me biscuit as he used to call me biccy when he couldnt say my name properly. Ive also been called sticky vicky, victorious, victory v and vicky the viking (old kids cartoon). kids are inventive with nicknames no matter what you name your child. I'm weighing all this up when thinking of names for our baby boy due in may. i dont think you can escape people screwing with your name!

Sponge is as sensible as the other suggestions.

blackcoffee · 16/01/2011 17:58

you could shorten it to sponge Hmm
I like Victoria though

orangepoo · 16/01/2011 17:58

You will have to use other nns that you dislike if she becomes a teen and decides she wants to be called Vic. The youngest Victoria I know goes by Vic.

ensure · 16/01/2011 17:56

Plum is cute, Queenie goes well with your other names, and I think Victoria itself is nice too. You don't have to use other nns if you dislike them.

Go for it!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 16/01/2011 17:53

Victoria is lovely. Queenie and Plum as nns for it are ridiculous. Sorry.

claireybear82 · 16/01/2011 17:32

it will drive you UTTERLY mad having to keep reminding everyone to not use nicknames and even then they will ignore you. its setting urself up to be contstantly agitated imo lol. i also think it sounds a bit old fashioned

ZZZenAgain · 16/01/2011 17:31

I like Victoria. I wouldn't abbreviate it.

A friend of mine has a dd called Victoria but she is Ukrainian and probably it is a local nickname she uses -Vika which I quite like. It is still quite strong.

amandine07 · 16/01/2011 17:29

I like the name Victoria, it's a strong name IMO. re the shortened versions I wouldn't let that stop you...nicknames are annoying unless you have asked to be addressed by one.
e.g. I know a Vicky who can't stand being called Victoria and vice versa someone who insists on being called Victoria and no shortened versions.

Fair enough, although I think people can be a bit ignorant about calling you what they want rather than the name you wish to be called...I am referring to grown adults here, not children in the playground although I think there are strong similarities!

onimolap · 16/01/2011 17:11

I think it's a lovely name, but the youngest person I know with it is about 30 now.

I agree that you may not be able to stop the NNs you don't like though.

ValiumSilverTongue · 16/01/2011 16:55

REally don't like it. One of those names from my generation that isn't ready to come back. Hate Vicky. I think Little Britain have ruined it (more) with Vicky Pollard as well. And even if it wasn't a parody now, it still wouldn't go with Iris or Pearl at all. If I met a 37 year old Vicky I wouldnt' think anything, but for a baby!?

What else are you thinking of??

tyler80 · 16/01/2011 13:43

You'd never be able to enforce people using the full name, so if you truly hate all 3 nicknames that can be taken from it I'd steer clear.
