I have been thinking about the name Victoria for a while.
What do you think?
I love the name Queenie, but could not put it on the birth certificate, so thought this would be an option that would allow that nn. I also love the name Victoria (the name of a very dear childhood friend), and there is the added bonus of the nn Plum.
I do hate Vicky, Tori and vic though.
Would love some thoughts on Victoria please!
Her sisters would be Iris and Pearl and brothers AMos and Eli. Thanks

I know a birth certificate Queenie who is lovely. Go for that if you like it OP!

I know an adult Victoria who is only known as that, Victoria. Lovely name.

my one year old is Victoria and it is a lovely name- classic and strong. i don't like the abbreviations and get told constantly that she will get called Vicky. Well i am of the opinion that whilst she is of a certain age her name is Victoria and i shall stress to people to call her that. Hopefully this will rub off on daughter and she will also have the assertiveness to correct people. We already have to do this with out son who is called Quentin as people pronounce it Quintin!!! I realise that she may as a teen want to go by an abbreviation but in our household she will be Victoria.

I am a Victoria too. I love my name. I am often Vik with close friends which I also quite like.

Mostly I find that when I introduce myself as Victoria, that's what people call me.

I'm a Victoria. Disliked during teenage years as I thought it sounded 'posh', and that was the last thing I wanted then. Also got called Sticky Vicky, because I was very thin, but that's no biggie.

Now, some people nn me without asking and call me Vicky, which, somewhat irrationally, bugs the living daylights out of me. I have no hesitation in a) not answering / ignoring them, esp if yelled across a room b) correcting them or c) the most petty option, shortening their name and calling them it, if possible. That one is particularly pathetic, I know =) but, it's just not my name.

Otherwise, most everyone knows me as Vic or Vics. Can't stand Tor or Tory, yeuch.

Victoria is a good name, but I can't think of any abbreviations of it that I like. Queenie really does make me go Hmm, sorry, but if you like it then you should use it.

Someone I know has used Aubrey recently, I thought that sounded quite nice.

I love the name Victoria.

The child will probably get her own nicknames through her liofe, and will choose which she prefers to use.

I like the name, my sister is Victoria and wanted to be called Toria when when was little but prefers Vicky now.

You might hate the shortened versions but you can't stop her liking them when she's old enough to make her own mind up.

I've never heard of using the nn Plum, I think that's a bit daft :o

I really like Victoria but think it will be difficult to avoid Vicky or Vic when she's at school.

I love Victoria but hate Queenie.
It will be out of your hands anyway, once she gets to a certain age she will go for her preferred short name. I have a DC with a long name, I always call him by it but all his friends go for the shortened form,

I really like the name Victoria, and I know a baby called this. And a Viki (foreign spelling) and a baby boy Victor.

You can insist on Victoria.

I was Victoria till I went to university and it has gone downhill since then with combinations of Vicky, Vic, Tor, Vix. People will call you what they want.

My letters are always Victoria with emails normally signed off Vicky!

I really like Victoria. I associate it with other timeless classics like Elizabeth (well, I would, wouldn't I?!)

I don't think it automatically becomes Vicky either. At the risk of sounding like the name snob I am, if you're posh enough it tends to stay Victoria or become at worst, Vic.

Not even Mrs David has managed to sully its classiness for me.

Victoria is a great, strong name. I immediately think of Victoria Pendleton, the cyclist. Are you serious about your nn suggestions???

GetOrf - glad you like Iris, she is nearly 10 now, so a bit late to change it Grin .
Talked to dh about Victoria last night again, and it is now off the list, so back to Augusta and Gwendolen (Wendy) as our main choices.

I don't like the name - redolent of stuffy old women in my view. Plus the nn Vicky/Vikki are horrible and you probably won't be able to stop them.

I gave my dd the beautiful name Sophia and everyone now calls her Phia because she hates her name Hmm despite years of me trying to not have her name shortened.

Iris is a lovely name imo.

I like Victoria and know a couple of Victorias who are known by their full name and not nicknames. I think it's due a comeback :)
