Clive. I had a friend called Clive and he didn't like it, and went by the name Fred his whole adult life. I only found out it was his name when I saw his prescription bag.

Lots of names are 'of their time' - it's just that their time comes back again after three or four generations.

Considered Leonard for this thread then remembererd I know a few Leos - though that could be Leopold I suppose.

OK I stand corrected re Stanley Elsie and Edith - all nice names but rather thought they were 'of their time' only.

Well it's a Welsh name (we're Welsh 1st language) so it wouldn't mean much to you anyway! He is named after my lovely uncle.

I know a few little girls called Elsie and two little boys called Frankie (who will no doubt become Frank when they're older), so wrong there.

I also know a little Edith and a Herbie.

I don't think you can ever say 'never'.

I would never have guessed that names like Iris, Ivy Violet and Esme, or Stanley, Archie etc would become so popular.

What about Norbert? My Dad has a friend called Norbert - he goes by Nobby. Bet that won't be creeping up the top 100 any time soon.

I think "Granny" names will be popular with our children's generation, so the Kevins and Nigels, Lindas and Sharons will come back. I have given my youngest child a name from that generation, and it's great- Not a weird, out there name but no-one of his age has it.
