Edmund or Euan

DS1 is called Aiden. My DH really likes the name Edmund for DS2, who is due in a couple of months. However, despite good associations (Blackadder, Hillary, etc) and the fact I like Ed as an abbreviation, Edmund sounds really posh to me, which puts me off. I much prefer Euan as a name.

So... could I have advice on:

  1. Whether I'm right in thinking Edmund sounds posh

  2. Whether it would be odd to have an Aiden and an Edmund (who potentially might want to be called Aid and Ed)

  3. Whether Aiden plus Euan sounds too Irish (I love Irish names, but neither DH or I have any Irish blood)

Thank you!

eandemum - i think you are confusing the name with ieuan which is welsh - pronounced yiann

Edmund!

I have a Euan - the only thing I'd say is think about the spelling. He is half Irish but I thought the name was welsh!

I think Aiden goes MUCH better with Edmund. It's nice to have a slightly posh longer name, especially as realistically he will get shortened to Ed which is quite every day.

Much prefer Edmund (which IMHO is les posh than Edmond).

Edmund and Aidan are both early saints and so go together well. Aidan is also associated with Northumberland, so no need to think Scot (unless you want to).

euan would have been one of my choices - its scottish i thought

Prefer Euan.

Know 2 Edmunds, and they are both very posh!

I do think that Edmund sounds a bit posh and I'm afraid that it does make me think of Blackadder.

Euan is a wonderful name, not that I am biased or anything Wink

I know someone who has a Ewan and a Rory and neither she or her husband are Scottish, they just liked them.

Edmund would be fine so don't worry if you like it.

I much prefer Euan, though, and think it sounds better with Aiden.

My DS's middle name is Edmund - we are not posh! (was a family member's name).

I really LOVE the name Euan

Edmund is OK, will probably get confused with Edward and makes me think of turkish delight
