My husband thinks it would be a really good idea to call DS2, a shortened version of our surname. He saw it once on a Harry Enfield programme and ever since he's thought of it as a brillant boy's name.
What do you think?
Is there any circumstance that Billy Williams might be acceptable or owen Owens Etc?
I think this is mad personally.

DD has a boy named Jack Jackson in her reception class. Even she thinks it's a bit odd.

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 19/01/2011 21:42

I think it's awful and shows a complete lack of imagination. I see these on the credits and wonder 'What were they thinking??'

Chumpalina · 19/01/2011 21:38

Very very common occurance in Wales, my absolute fave nickname was a chap in our village David Davies aka 'Dai twice'. Go for it!

Pootle78 · 19/01/2011 21:06

I know of a Robbie McRobbie through work!

Always thought it was strange, obviously first name was Robert and he shortened it, but whatever floats your boat!

humanfraggle · 19/01/2011 16:14

It really depends what the name is...

I think 'Robert Robertson' would be silly, but I knew a 'Rory McRory' & LOVED LOVED LOVED his name!

But Major Major Major Major from Catch-22 is a complete screw-up. He never fitted in because of the humiliation of his name. You have been warned! Grin

FreakoidOrganisoid · 17/01/2011 19:51

My cousin has the same first name and surname.

I also know a girl called Morgan Morgan (mother's maiden name was Morgan, decided to call baby Morgan Father'ssurname, parents split up and children took on mother's maiden name)

SilkStalkings · 17/01/2011 19:46

Dave Davies from The Kinks. Didn't do him any harm.

telsa · 17/01/2011 19:41

Look what happened to Humbert Humbert!

rubybambini · 16/01/2011 12:06

I don't mind it so much. Very common in Scandinavia, if that helps! Rasmus Rasmussen, Johan Johansson etc etc.

SimplyRead · 16/01/2011 10:55

MWs can be very good at stifling sniggers imo. Hmm

Really not her place to remark.

mamadiva · 16/01/2011 10:48

The girl I was on ward with when DS was born called her son Cameron McCameron Hmm

Even the MW stifled a snigger and asked her if she was sure, then said well we'll leave it a few days LOL.

hmmSleep · 16/01/2011 10:32

I wouldn't do it, my favourite boys name is my married surname and couldn't bring myself to use it.

SimplyRead · 16/01/2011 10:31

I knew a woman called Frances Francis. But that was through marriage.

Fenugreek · 16/01/2011 10:27

I worked briefly with a Fergus Ferguson.

changethatname · 16/01/2011 10:19

I have name changed for this! Dh has one of these names - he is called Jonathan Johnston! Understandably he goes by Joe (happily a younger family member could not say Jonathan when he was born, called him Joe and it stuck).

When I was pg last time he actually suggested John Shock . As much as I love the name John (and I really do) I just could not do that to the poor child. Silly dh! John Johnston Grin .

BikeRunSki · 16/01/2011 07:45

anonymosity · 16/01/2011 07:35
