Odd names I like

Dunno why I am thinking of these today, but there you go.

Just after I had my daughter my son dreamt up the name Vickery. I wish he had thought of it before we named her, I really liked it.

Mallory - never read the towers books, but I do think this is a really nice girl's name.

My brother was at Uni with a man called Tudor. I think it is Welsh, may be spelled Tudur, rather than the English kings way.

There you have them, my odd - but cool - names of the day.

Decibella - DP made this up (he works in the music industry)

We had a DS in the end so we never had to have the conversation about whether it is in fact a great name for a pet, or actually a name suitable for a human - what do you reckon?

He'd love the name to actually be used BTW, so if anyone else fancies it, go for it Grin

BuntyPenfold you have great taste Grin

scrivette · 18/01/2011 21:09

Serendipity for a girl, Storm for a boy!

Colyngbourne · 18/01/2011 09:52

I've known both a Lettice and Flynn - both lovely girls' names.

GandalfyCarawak · 17/01/2011 14:41

It's my grandmother's name, Bunty, and I'd love to use it but I feel I have to use a Welsh name really.

BuntyPenfold · 17/01/2011 12:54

Ooh, yes, Una is lovely.

GandalfyCarawak · 17/01/2011 12:50

Una
and
Mesach

BuntyPenfold · 17/01/2011 12:44

Names I love that are apparently weird or "not fair on the child":

Girls:

Aurelia (Or-reel-ee-ya)
Persephone (Per-sef-on-knee) nn Sephie
Odette

Boys:

Cuthbert nn Bertie
Telemicus

kreecherlivesupstairs · 16/01/2011 10:10

I really like Lydia, but DH vetoed it as too posh and too thin.
I really like Ottolien but it doesn't go with the surname. DD was really cross when she found out, her BF at school was Ottalien.

BellaMagnificat · 16/01/2011 01:37

Bambi those are great n ames for a troupe of agility trained Border Collies. Children? Hmmm

Harryo comes from a relly of Georgiana Dss of Devonshire (see Amanda Foreman's v good biography.)

My silly names

Sydney for a girl (the Mitford girls' mother was called Sydney)
and also Lydia,

Had I had children
Girls
Catherine Frances Elizabeth
Boys
Jack, Ben, Sam, Jonathan, David

Don't understand this weird drive for uniqueness.

There was a Darrell and Wilhelmina in Mallory Towere iirc

AddictedToRadley · 16/01/2011 01:26

Lettice? Not for me. My first thought was 'shake your lettuce' or is that just me? I wouldn't want to risk that sort of connection. Having said that though I do think Lettice has a lovely soft sound to it and if it didn't have the salad or toiletting links it would make a pretty girls name.

ILovedYou · 16/01/2011 01:20

lettice - ooh no - terrible

i recall the days when kylie was a tragic name for a baby

threefeethighandrising · 16/01/2011 01:06

thatsnotmymonkey your list has both my DS's name and my middle name on it!

meadowlarks · 15/01/2011 17:59

A family name on my mum's side is Penrose for a boy. I don't like it enough to use it but if I did, I would.

bambiandthumper · 15/01/2011 15:46
