ok, not a cheery topic, but I've noticed that there have been quite a few threads on here about name regrets and people wanting to change their DCs names... and it's got me wondering what the names that people regret are? are there any names that crop up more regularly than others?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

i love Martha!

The only regret I have is that I gave dd a v standard middle name (Jane) - wish I'd gone for something more outlandish

actually came across a child called nevaeh the other day (Heaven backwards) - didn't think people really did that. surely peolple must regret that at some stage?

NarcolepsyQueen · 12/01/2011 11:49

I went to school with a boy named Jolly. And yes, he was a miserable child. Some names just stamp 'bully me' on a child's forehead dont they?!

Sienna Wink

westlake... I'm so glad to hear that, I have three kids and that has been my only lingering doubt about any of their names, that dd might resent having such a popular name as she gets older (atm she's at the age where she thinks it's brilliant when someone shares her name)

MrsBananaGrabber · 11/01/2011 17:14

My name is Sarah too and it seems to be a name that doesn't date, although I was one of many in my school but I am in my 30's.

I don't regret my DS1 name (Dylan) but it did become crazy popular after we chose it in 2001.

westlake · 11/01/2011 17:12

summerrain my name is sarah and i have always loved it. it was VERY popular when i was born, not so much now (not sure i know another in my close circle of friends/family)
I often say how lucky i was to have this name.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 11/01/2011 17:04

My son is Jack Christian I certainly don't regret it, it's a family name and I like it but he is of course one of 4 in his class so will forever be known as Jack.S.
My other son is Harry Lee I know its fairly popular but I actually haven't met another.

alypaly · 11/01/2011 16:58

thanks bunty i loved it at the time. is it your friends first or middle name. he thinks he is the only one in the world and would like it removed off his birth certificate

SummerRain · 11/01/2011 16:55

I don't regret dd's name... it was a name that dp and i both thought of independantly and it felt right and does suit her. But it is bloody popular ans there's a girl in the class below her who'll be in her room for most of her time at primary who shares the name. I gave her a middle name i loved as well though and will be more than happy for her to use that if she gets sick of her first name when she's older.

Her name is Sarah Abigail for the record.

Emjxxx · 11/01/2011 16:50

I knew a boy at school who was very unfortunate and was called Gideon, when he turned 18 he changed is name to Eric FFS ERIC!!!! I'm not sure what one is worse.

Leaf, Trevor, Jesus, Sinbad, Colin, Apple, Fox, Flower, Roger, TreyC - God awful names

DD's middle name is Martha and we love it Smile

KERALA1 · 11/01/2011 16:44

Aperture good call re Eve. One third of DD's class mates are called some version of this name. Perfectly decent name just crazily over popular.

Pinkjenny · 11/01/2011 16:41

My dd's middle name is Paige. I've gone off it, tbh. Glad it's only her middle name, and obv could be a lot worse.

ApertureScience · 11/01/2011 16:40

I don't think Eve is an awful name btw, it's been my favourite name since I was a teenager. I think its because we were already wobbling with the name that popularity became an issue, wasn't trying hard to be unique Hmm I don't think it matters with a name you truly love for your child.

OddBodd · 11/01/2011 16:39

Favourite???????! What in Gay hell are these parent's thinking?! Let's hope he is an only child or else his name may seriously kick off some sibling rivalry!

nickelbabysnatcher · 11/01/2011 16:38

my poor PFB DS will be saddled with Graham as a middle name... (family heirloom)
and any 2nd DD will have Alexandra as a middle name, cos that's DH's choice (he got 2nd girls' middle name as a comproise Wink ). It's not a horrid name, but it will be pronounced differently by his family (southerners) and mine (northerners)

this is all theoretical, of course...

waitwhat · 11/01/2011 16:36

In my sons class there is a boy called FavouriteHmm

ApertureScience · 11/01/2011 16:34

Well I've just changed DD's name today from Eve (Anna or Eve thread) we really felt like it didn't suit her, but also it is really really popular where I am (didn't realise how popular till after we named her) I think its especially popular where I live as I don't run into nearly as many of the other top 10 names. Thats our reasons anyway :)

OddBodd · 11/01/2011 16:34

True some of them are truly bloody awful. DS has a Honey-Bell in his class. Hmm

LADYBOAK · 11/01/2011 16:32

My husband middle name is Digby !!!

KnittingRocks · 11/01/2011 16:30

I don't think Martha is actually too bad in comparison to some of the god awful names that kids get saddled with nowadays in the quest to be 'unique'!

OddBodd · 11/01/2011 16:29

That said, my ds' middle name is Steven (dh's choice) and I wish I had stuck to my guns and forced Stephen spelling.

OddBodd · 11/01/2011 16:29

unattractive^^
