ok, not a cheery topic, but I've noticed that there have been quite a few threads on here about name regrets and people wanting to change their DCs names... and it's got me wondering what the names that people regret are? are there any names that crop up more regularly than others?

One of my good friend is named Buster, his brother is Dashel or Dash for short and cousins are Appolonia, Thor and Belladonna!

Edmundo · 22/01/2011 20:03

I agree with reddaisy that when I hear the name Shannon I think of an Australian beauty. Not at all chavvy! You really are worrying about nothing Ken. She will not be judged because of her name. You did good.

Seriously, most names are slagged off on here for being too common, be it chav, overused or 'the next Tracy'. Take it with a pinch.

CharlieBoo · 22/01/2011 19:37

I know a 10 year old shannon and she is absolutely beautiful...there is nothing chavvy about her or her family. I really don't think its chavvy at all!

Everyname is slated on here...my dd's name is too 'twee' I have read, but IMO its so pretty and beautiful just like my dd!

pranma · 22/01/2011 18:32

My ds is Guy and at school it was corrupted to Gay!!Still he likes it now.

BarbieLovesKen · 22/01/2011 17:31

Oh thank you reddaisy & Edmundo - I really appreciate that!! Smile

Stac2011 · 21/01/2011 23:44

i called ds jack as we couldnt think of another boys name went to the ward and there were 3 others but he looks like a jack so i love it. Dd is rileigh (riley) and i got told on mn its chavy and I must be thick but to be honest after jack being so popular i wanted her to have something a bit different and she suits it. As you can guess i'm a stacey my middle name is my grans maiden name, hate it!

Edmundo · 21/01/2011 23:21

I only know one adult Shannon and she is uber classy! I don't know of any young Shannons at all.

reddaisy · 21/01/2011 23:16

BarbieLovesKen - don't feel like that, especially because of Mumsnet. I think Shannon is a lovely name. All the pretty love interest girls in Home and Away and Neighbours always seemed to be called Shannon so I think it is lovely.

LittleBeth53 · 21/01/2011 22:58

My son's middle name is Noah. I really liked it at the time but now I think, "why oh why?"

Minnie74 · 21/01/2011 22:33

A lady I used to work with taught a boy called- seriously- Storm White Power Ranger! That story still does the rounds!

We're trying to think of names now and it's such a minefied! Dh has got a very distinctive name - Roland - and has always considered it an absolute curse as people remember him too easily. Who calls a baby Roland???

Meglet · 20/01/2011 21:11

I can't stand DS's middle name. XP insisted we use his Dads name and it sounds shite. XP doesn't even like his dad that much and just did it to curry favour with him. It's a horrid, old mans name (and not one of the cool ones!).

Obviously when I realised XP wasn't going to budge I added a third name in for DS which is very sweet and much nicer.

BarbieLovesKen · 20/01/2011 21:02

I think Martha has a lovely sound to it.

I regret dds name - Shannon. I adored it for years and must admit didnt regret it until I started coming on here and was told repeatedly it was chavvy Sad. Oh well.

OMaLittle · 20/01/2011 20:09

Wimple - sharing your pain! though our DD2 is only 2.9 so I've got a month still to be a better parent than you ;). We hadn't got one by the registration and then, erm, still haven't. It wasn't a conscious choice and DD1 does have a middle name that she is now old enough to brandish smugly.

And DD2 is an Eve, poor darling. Happily she is somewhat, erm, individual.

I knew a Nevaeh (DD1's nursery class for about, ooh, two years) and it never once occured to me that it was heaven backwards!

I love Martha too. Had a funny moment at a kids party the other day when the entertainer went round asking the kids' names - 'is Pirate really your name?' (silence) 'erm, yes'

Hulababy · 20/01/2011 19:53

I love the name Martha and think is a beautiful pretty name. It is one of my top three names if I ever have another girl.

I don;t understand why peole are bothered by popular names. Surely it jut means the name is nice enough for several people to want to use it for their precious baby?

DD's name is Mollie. In its Molly spelling it has risen in popularity lists. However, we know no others and there is no other Molly/ie in DD's school, nor in the one I work at.

Chulita · 20/01/2011 19:51

I sometimes regret DD's name, although I really like it and it suits her there are soooo many Lucy girls running around. Although everytime I hear one I never think they suit the name quite like my PFB Grin I hope DS won't regret his name cos it's lovely but no one will ever get it right.
sophielouise I love the name Gift, I've got a male friend called that and I think it's lovely.

sophielouise · 20/01/2011 19:33

Hi all, loving this thread! As a teacher I've come across some CRAZY names over the years.. here are some of the best ones:

Wolfe
Miracle
Humble
Blessing
Tequila (I kid you not!)
Gift
Phongsakon Wongplong (from Thailand - shortened to Pong!)
Muntha

chickbean · 17/01/2011 19:17

strandednomore - I'd have had to call DS2 Che then.

iwasyoungonce · 17/01/2011 10:20

TeaisForMugs - is the name Peppa or Dora? I am dying to know!

strandednomore · 17/01/2011 10:03

chickbean - I knew someone whose son was Manley (as in Norman Manley) Fidel. I thought he was trying a little too hard to be cool, but they are good names separately!

reallywoundup · 16/01/2011 21:42

i wish i'd stood my ground and gone for Tabitha or Matilda for DD, dh went to register her and she ended up as Amelia (Millie) v. popular and when calling for Millie at a the soft play barn you end up with about 20 small girls running to you Hmm

chickbean · 16/01/2011 21:27

Don't regret Martha at all - love it! Do regret not giving DS1 a middle name beginning with F. Our surname is very like Kennedy and he would have been JFK. Did think about "Fidel"!

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 16/01/2011 21:26

DD is called Catherine, a long standing family name, shortened to Catey. (yes I know the spelling is odd, but it's been spelled that way for 100 years or so so BOO!) I wanted Scarlet for her middle name, (mad on Gone With The Wind) but DP insisted on Victoria! I always regret this, she is very Scarlet Ohara ish and Victoria never suited her.

Jenski · 16/01/2011 21:26

Not too late whimple, but not sure how you do it!
