Amos would sit well with Amelie :)

its one of the few old style names I haven't seen revived of late & its one I personally like very much & would of used myself

Thank you for all your great suggestions! Now lots of thinking to do.

Agree that Joshua is an excellent match for Amelie.

Topsy1978 · 11/01/2011 21:07

I have a Joshua & Amelie like both names together!

drivingmisscrazy - I'm with you...apart from when signing cards from all the family, when will it ever matter? (and even then it doesn't really matter).
I'd be tempted to pick the name that suits the child - it seems kind of unfair to let its older sibling determine its name before he or she is even born.

OracleOfDelphinium · 11/01/2011 21:02

Are you French?

If not, I'd say that it would go with the increasingly popular likes of Oscar, Milo, Theo and so on. Though personally I prefer Edward, regardless of whether it "goes" with Amelie.

hmmSleep · 11/01/2011 20:50

I like Edward too, I prefer Teddy to Eddie though.

I also like;

Tobias / Toby
Benjamin / Ben
Joseph / Joe
William / Will

janerosebo · 11/01/2011 20:44

I have an Amelie and if her little sister had been a brother he would have been Gabriel

SleepWhenImDead · 11/01/2011 19:40

Edward is lovely - baby Eddie... soooo cute!

jugglingjo · 11/01/2011 19:40

We've got an Edward, though so far he's usually an Eddie. I think Eddie has been cute while he's little. As he grows up he's using Ed a bit more, and I think that's a good name for a young man. DH sometimes calls him "The edge" too, especially as middle name James (EJ)

And if he ever wants to be a bit grander he can go for the full "Edward" - A real English name too, and one everyone knows, yet we don't come across too many ! Also all those cute teddy/ Winnie the pooh references (Edward bear)

Lots to recommend it! Glad most posters like it too ! Room for a few more I'm sure if I've encouraged anyone Smile

cookieraymond · 11/01/2011 19:24

Amelie and Oscar Smile

muminthesun · 11/01/2011 19:13

oscar

We also had Lachlan on our shortlist, but I think I've gone off it as I think pronunciation issues may arise?

missymousie · 11/01/2011 19:04

Tristan would be lovely
or
Killian or Lachlan
Pronounced
Kill-e-an or Loch-lan

Killians I've met have been irish or french
Lachlan's Scottish or Australian

Shhhh ~ don't tell my DD I forgot the accent on her name Blush

Trying again; I have an Amélie. For #3 we're thinking of Fraser Robert or Patrick James (PJ) or Elodie Anne (or some other middle name)...

mrsfudgely · 11/01/2011 18:31

I have Amelie and William. William was the only name DH and I could agree on .DH wanted Victor.

KittyFoyle · 11/01/2011 18:18

I know an Amelie and Hugo with a baby brother called Sebby.

hillmanfamily · 11/01/2011 18:12

Jean-Paul, Jean-Luc, Edouard, Etienne, Thierry,
Eugene, Sacha, Serge, Anton, Axel, Emil?

NoLadyButManyBubbasAndBumps · 11/01/2011 18:09

I have an Amelie and lurking with interest as DC3 (poss a boy) is due any day now. Lots of our shortlists have made this thread - I love George but DH says it's a naughty name (we're both teachers and many names are off limits because of the naughtiness of children we've taught! :o)

Also love Tom but that's my DH's name.

Think Matthew is a good'un too...

Lotster · 11/01/2011 17:16

The first two names I thought of for Amelie were George, and Tom.

SickOnMyShoulder · 11/01/2011 17:14

I love the names Charlie (can be Charles on the birth certificate) and Alfie (Alfred), and I think both go very nicely with Amelie, although Charlie is probably better as it French origin, and old school. For the record, I love the name Amelie, very pretty.

hatsybatsy · 11/01/2011 17:14

actually i think James does still work.

If OP likes Edward, then traditional boys' names might be the way to go?

henry
george
william
james
robert
edwin

drivingmisscrazy · 11/01/2011 16:54

despite my confusion about names that go together (I can see the case against adam and eve, or names that have the same sound - although some people seem to go for this...) I too had thought of Oscar.

time4chocolate · 11/01/2011 16:48

You're right about having to consider older siblings name, I have a daughter Eve, however, my favourite boys name is Adam!!! needless to say I had to pick another name for my son when he came along.
