We are really struggling to think of a boys name! What do you think to Finn or Millen?

Millen is lovely. I've never heard of it, but I really like it Smile

RememberToPlaywiththeKids · 14/01/2011 21:45

Thank you everyone - I'm still so undecided!!! We've agreed that if we do go for it, it would be spelt Millan rather than Millen.

I was asking about the Down's Syndrome as i would feel happier if we give him a name that is easy to say and easy to spell and not be wierd etc.

I thought Milan pronounced Millen was a scottish name for boys? Like it, either spelling. Like Finn too.....because I have one.

Deciduousblonde · 12/01/2011 09:50

The Downs Syndrome issue wouldn't affect my choice in names at all.

You will have a gorgeous baby whatever the outcome..good luck :)

SilkStalkings · 12/01/2011 09:47

Reminds me of Karen Millen, I would assume you were a shallow fashion fan. Like calling your son Kenzo or McQueen.

Edmundo · 11/01/2011 23:57

Finn is a great name - that's exactly why it's popular!
Millen I'm not keen on, agree with spelling it Milan.

A1980 · 11/01/2011 23:26

I know a 5yo girl named Millen. I want to ask if it's after Karen Millen.

Awful, awful, awful name for a girl.

But apparently it is a real name.

Looked it up:

The boy's name Millen \m(il)-len\ is a variant of Miller (Old English), and the meaning of Millen is "one who grinds grain".

Pepa · 11/01/2011 21:15

I love Millan but then again my dd2 is a Mila so I guess I'm biased.

As for the ds just go with the name you love....

RememberToPlaywiththeKids · 11/01/2011 21:04

also - we had a 1 in 5 risk of down syndrome but didn't go for an amnio, so we don't know if baby has DS or not.

Would that change your view of which name would be better?

oh yes, i prefer the 'a' - what a great idea.

it's a mixed vote at the moment and i'm still not sure.

there are no other names that have caught my attention at all.

i know my parents would be appalled with both choices - not that that matters at allWink.

i do so love the girls name 'Mila' so i wonder if that's why i'm so drawn to Millen/Millan.

You could spell it Millan, I suppose?

I actually quite like it, but I also like Finn. Both good choices :)

screamingskull · 11/01/2011 19:20

my son used to have a millen at his nursery [boy]. i think it is a lovely name and not trying to hard at all.

finn is a bit like jack, john, tom etc at least unlikely to have another 3 in the class with the same name.

PlanetLizard · 11/01/2011 19:16

Related names are Emiliano and Miles. Or how about Emil?

Pancakeflipper · 11/01/2011 19:11

The only Millen I know Is a girl. It is a trying too hard name to me.

Teds77 · 11/01/2011 19:09

Dylan/Dillan sound like Millen?

hpsaucy · 11/01/2011 19:07

i really like millen. Think its different without being strange!! :)

freerangeeggs · 11/01/2011 19:04

Finn's lovely but popular (for a reason).

Millen is quite nice, reminds me of Karen Millen though. I quite like Miller, though it's a bit American.

I do know a teenage Milan - everyone seems to prn it like the city, though.

Clowance · 11/01/2011 18:49

I met a child called Millen once. At first I thought 'oh, err, how unusual' but the name has always stuck with me and I actually quite like it.

I think i've even suggested it once or twice on here...

Boohooyou · 11/01/2011 18:48

Millen is great, spelt Millen
Milan is just naff (brooklyn, paris, etc)
Finn is becoming very popular but still a cool name.
I also like Miller.

DELHI · 11/01/2011 18:41

Millen isn't a name, it's just a word - does it even have a meaning?
I know a DS called Miller, which I think is equally awful - would you call a child Baker, Cleaner, or Plumber? So what's with Miller?

hatsybatsy · 11/01/2011 17:16

surely Millen is a surname? If used as a first name, the kid will end up with spelling issues for his whole life - and that is a pain believe me.

I do quite like Finn but agree that it has become rather overused - so many different variants.

RememberToPlaywiththeKids · 11/01/2011 13:44

I much prefer the spelling Milan but want to avoid the poor boy having to correct everyone all the time. Google assures me that Millen is also a proper name but Milen appears to be rather mde up spelling wise.....Blush

cumbria81 · 11/01/2011 13:35

Milan is a real name (as in Milan Kundera) but pronounced Mil-an.

Millen sounds made up.

RememberToPlaywiththeKids · 11/01/2011 13:27

How about Milen? How would you pronounce that if it was the first time you had seen it?

OP posts:
rachel1970 · 11/01/2011 12:41

I'd pronounce

Millen as Mill-en

and

Milan as Mee-lahn

So Millen if you want that pronounciation.
