My 4 week daughter still nameless

My daughter is 4 weeks today and she still has no name Shock I look at her and try different names on her but none seem right.

Her daddy passed away 4 months ago and I wanted to name her after him in someway. His name was Ben (Benjamin David) and there arent any girls versions of that name! I don't want just initials (so like Bella) because I want it to be obvious that she is named after him. Any suggestions please??

Perhaps one of the names could could go in the middle? (Though that wouldn't fit with spelling out "Ben".

Have you spoken to his parents? Are there any family names you could use? Did he have any nicknames or pet names for you that you could use?

DelGirl · 08/01/2011 18:59

I should have said I still gave dd the first name we chose but his mums 2nd name is my dds 2nd name too.

I was in a similar situation and wanted to link my late dh's name to my dd. We had chosen a first name and I wanted something like his but didn't like anything. IN the end I chose his mums middle name, I had never met her but like to think my dd will like the sentiment in years to come. All my best wishes at such a bitter sweet time xx

I'm so sorry to hear about your DD's dad. I agree that Benjamina is lovely, and Bennie or Mina are fab nns, especially Mina. It's also an unusual enough name for a girl to be obviously in honour of her father.

DaraMahini · 08/01/2011 18:44

Oh thank you so much for all of the suggestions. Sadly, I'm not in love with any of the names- they all sound so old or "froo froo" (sorry don't mean to offend anyone)

We hadn't talked much about names, we hadn't found out what we were having and he wanted to wait to meet her before thinking of names.

I like the idea of initials spelling out Ben. I might do that.

duchesse · 08/01/2011 18:08

My friend's dd's second name is Bendita, which is a form of Benedicta and means blessed. Sorry to hear about your dp. Enjoy your lovely new baby.

BellaMagnificat · 08/01/2011 18:02

Dara

I'm so sorry at your loss. Can't imagine. :(

I oncce worked with a French girl called Benjamine - so it is a name.
Like Bella too ;)

Also Lily's suggestions of three names spelling out Daddy's name.

noddyholder · 08/01/2011 17:55

What about beatrice shortened to bea

solo · 08/01/2011 17:54

What about Jemina? it is a Spanish name and pronounced JHEHMIYNah (HEMENA). Similar to Benjamin in some way.

solo · 08/01/2011 17:47

So sorry that your Dd's Daddy has passed away. You must be a very strong woman.

My Dd had no name for 3 weeks and in the end, I got lots of small pieces of paper with individual possibilities written on them and moved them around until I came up with a combination that I liked and went together.
Did your late partner have any favourite names that he fancied naming a baby girl?

I hope you find something that you are happy with soon.

LilyBolero · 08/01/2011 17:45

Dara, I'm so sorry to read that you lost your little girl's Daddy. My baby is 7 months, and is called Benjamin David!

Suggestions for girls names;
Benedicta
Benjamina
or what about initials spelling Ben? Like
Bella Elizabeth Naomi

or something like that.

ShoppingDays · 08/01/2011 17:45

Or how about Benicia?

MistleToad · 08/01/2011 17:39

I'm really sorry to hear that your daughter's Daddy passed away. It's a lovely idea to name her after him in some way.

How about

Mina
Benet (pronounced Ben-ay)

or Davina sounds a bit like David?

Or is there a special place/song/name that meant something to you and your duaghter's daddy whilst you were pregnant? Perhaps you could use that?

ValiumTinselton · 08/01/2011 17:38

Jemima isn't a version of Ben, but it has something of Benjamim in there.

Or, How about putting Benedict as a middle name?

ednurse · 08/01/2011 17:34

Sorry for your loss. What about Yasmin? Has the 'min' from Benjamin and you could call her Minnie for nn?

bambiandthumper · 08/01/2011 17:32

So sorry for your loss, and congratulations on your DD!

I Agree with Pixie! Benjamina is lovely, and Minna and Minnie are both really sweet nicknames.

You could also have Jemima, which is similar, but not identical to Benjamin.

Otherwise I agree with choosing a first name which you and your DH both loved, and then giving Benjamin and your DH's middle names for your DD's middle names.

Eglu · 08/01/2011 17:31

Sorry for yout loss. I think Benjamin as a middle name would be lovely. Or I know a little girl called Benedict.

fizzpops · 08/01/2011 17:29

Jemima? Seems similar to me anyway...

ChippyMinton · 08/01/2011 17:29

So sorry for your loss. How about

Bena Davina

(Bena = wise one) (Davina = beloved)

Milngavie · 08/01/2011 17:14

X post with Pixie lol.

Milngavie · 08/01/2011 17:13

You could do the generational thing of adding ina to the end?

Benjamina
Benyameena
Benyamina

What do you feel?
