My 4 week daughter still nameless

DaraMahini · 08/01/2011 16:54

My daughter is 4 weeks today and she still has no name Shock I look at her and try different names on her but none seem right.

Her daddy passed away 4 months ago and I wanted to name her after him in someway. His name was Ben (Benjamin David) and there arent any girls versions of that name! I don't want just initials (so like Bella) because I want it to be obvious that she is named after him. Any suggestions please??

Sorry for your loss it must be dreadful for you.

I like Bella and Yasmin from some of the suggestions.

Let us know what you decide on Smile

freerangeeggs · 09/01/2011 15:32

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter! Bella is a beautiful name, and I like the suggestion of Mina above, too.

You could try looking for names with significant meanings. I thought these two were quite pretty.

Abigail - 'my father is joy' (from Hebrew Avigail)
Adanna - 'father's daughter' (from Igbo)

Good luck x

LadyMetroland · 09/01/2011 11:56

Why don't you call her Bee? As in the letter B. B for Ben and B for Bee (it could officially be Beatrice or something similar)

ThatllDoPig · 09/01/2011 11:36

I like Benita too.
xx

mrsweasleyismyalterego · 09/01/2011 11:05

so sorry for your loss .

just wondered if adanna meaning her fathers daughter might be an option

ChippingIn · 09/01/2011 02:42

Dara - I am very very sorry for your and your DD's loss. Just getting through each day is a big ask - don't stress yourself out about not having her name yet.

I like the idea of choosing something from his side of the family, rather than trying to use his name for a couple of reasons, but mainly because there's nothing you love - do you like his Mum's/Nana's names at all?

I really can't imagine how you must be feeling - life can be very cruel. I hope you find much joy in your DD and can make a happy life for you both x

Or did he like any actors/ writers/ family names you could use?

NotAnotherNewNappy · 08/01/2011 22:41

Benita, Benedicta and Jemima are all lovely. I don't think she'd thank you for giving her an overly male name, even if it does link her to her father.

onimolap · 08/01/2011 22:11

Bella Esperanza Natalie "beautiful hope birth"?

pommedeterre · 08/01/2011 22:05

Like James as in the model James King.
I agree Ben is good. Benni/Beni/Benny if you want to try and 'feminize' it a bit?
To echo everyone else so sorry to hear about her daddy and congratulations on your dd.

OddBodd · 08/01/2011 21:57

I actually just like Ben for a girl.

sarahtigh · 08/01/2011 20:59

think the idea of her initials spelling BEN is good also to have exactly the same initials as her father don't know the surname but B N ? Also think abigail which means father rejoiced is lovely also make her up a book about her dad with photos, but also maybe his driving licence scout badges exam results school reports if you have any of these or get her grandparents to do it for her etc I really wish you well with your DD

personally I would not do an unusual feminine version of a male name, I used to live in isle of lewis and knew lots of women with male names changed like donalda for donald murdina from murdo calina from calum even meet a malcolmina but what was always true was that they hated their names (even when they admired the person they were named after) and were called ina or nina instead,

some feminine versions are better and known as names in there own right like davina caroline

natto · 08/01/2011 20:56

So sorry for your loss, and congratulations on your baby girl.
I was also going to suggest Abigail, as I remembered its meaning which would be so appropriate for your little girl.

LilyBolero · 08/01/2011 19:48

Bethany is lovely, you could have
Bethany
Esther
Naomi

Esther means Star which is lovely!

lenak · 08/01/2011 19:32

Mina means love in German by the way.

lenak · 08/01/2011 19:31

Sorry for your loss.

Mina is nice as a first name.

What about Davite as a middle name - it is hebrew for cherished (David means dearly loved so it is quite close in sound and meaning)

imissmypiercings · 08/01/2011 19:20

why not go for a name with a meaning "tatyana" means "fathers daughter" (russian) so does Adanna (african), apparently "abigale" means " my "my father is joyful" (ancient greek)

so sorry for you loss, I know you will find the perfect name x

Lilyloo · 08/01/2011 19:09

I think having 3 names beginning with B E N is a lovely idea , am sorry for your loss but congratulations on your little girl

SummerRain · 08/01/2011 19:08

Abigail... it means 'father's joy' or 'my father rejoices'

tebbles · 08/01/2011 19:06

So sorry to hear of your loss.

Here are some B suggestions I tried to stay away from 'old or froo froo' so hope I have gone in the right direction.

Bethan
Belen
Belinda
Bellamy
Brianna
Bridget
Bonnie
Brea
Bria
Brenna
Briar
Brooke
Brynn

I was also thinking that you could honor her father by choosing a name (maybe the middle name?) afterone of his favorite songs, movie/book character, place etc. I think this would be a lovely story to tell her in the future and will link her to her his personality.

ShowOfHands · 08/01/2011 19:05

I'm so very sorry.

My lovely friend lost her dh when she was 8 months pg. Her dd is called Beatrice as it means 'bringer of hope'. I think it was very apt for her. I know you don't want just the initial but thought perhaps you'd like the meaning?

Greeninkmama · 08/01/2011 19:04

How about Hope?

ChippyMinton · 08/01/2011 19:02

Initials would work, she would be
