Felix and his amazing underpants

Why does no one else think of this? I cant be the only person who once read Viz?

It's a nouveau riche name

suwoo · 09/01/2011 12:04

Ooh 3nearly4 we have similar taste in names ;)

3nearly4 · 09/01/2011 11:45

This colour thing is very interesting!!
I would be interested to know what colours Noah, Finlay and Oscar are? I hope they're all the same colour and you can tell me what other names are of that colour. You may well help me name DS4!

suwoo · 09/01/2011 11:35

What colour is Noah? I am no expert whatsoever but I see green.

chaya5738 · 09/01/2011 11:30

Love it.

Simmylou · 08/01/2011 22:49

Haa, I totally agree on the Benjamin! I know what you mean about Harry being a brown. If you'd said, say, grey, I would just not get that but brown I do. The orange I had in mind for Harry was a burnt orange, specifically Smile not too far from brown.

Rhubarbgarden · 08/01/2011 21:04

simmylou no no no Harry is most definitely brown. And Finlay a pale pea green. But yes, George, Benjamin and Theo absolutely are orange, Benjamin a particularly icky yellowish shade!

Simmylou · 08/01/2011 20:18

Glad to be of service minipie!

Diddl, I meant it light heartedly almost comically, definitely not patronisingly! I don't do patronising, honestly.

minipie · 08/01/2011 10:55

Thanks Simmylou!

It almost works actually: I really like all the orange girls' names you listed (in fact 3 of them are in my "shortlist")

Boys' names - really like 2, quite like 2, dislike 1. So less success there... But then I like Felix so that adds another 1.

Not a bad strike rate! Maybe you should offer your services as a name advisor Wink

diddl · 08/01/2011 07:54

"diddl don't be touchy, my dear,"

Wasn´t being touchy, it was a genuine question.

Did you mean to be patronising?

onimolap · 07/01/2011 21:48

There are a lot of Felixes age about 10-12 (in Ds's school anyhow), but none amongst Dd's contemporaries (age 6-7). I think of the Chalet School twins, Felix and Felicity; but tend to associate it more with cats than luck (from the Latin, and HP).

Simmylou · 07/01/2011 21:41

diddl don't be touchy, my dear, an orange name is indeed not at all bad (nor is a name orange, or even related to any colour at all, except in the mind's eye of a synasthesiastic!!!)

Orange is warm, happy sunny type of colour but (personally) I prefer a cooler palette: pale blue, rose pink, violet, pale grey, turquoise, sometimes pale gold, white. I don't do orange/brown/cream/coffee/sand/burgundy type warm shades and orange is particularly hard to match. I have to really be in the mood to look at orange . Being in the vacinity of something bright yellow on a car journey can cause me to be car sick (true). But "that's just me"...

Phoenix · 07/01/2011 21:33

I like it :)

I didn't really think there were nn's for Noah but we call ds2 No-ni :o

I think nn's just happen and i agree they don't really even have to be close to the childs name.

Simmylou · 07/01/2011 21:32

Orange names: Wink

George
Finlay
Harry
Benjamin
Theo

Amelia
Erin
Faye
Sienna
Bethany
Faith

suwoo · 07/01/2011 21:27

Felix & Oscar are the odd couple aren't they? Or are they a 'cat' name and 'dog' name, I can't quite remember? Anyway they are my DS2's first and middle name. No nickname.

Christmasbelle · 07/01/2011 21:26

Absolutely love it. It always reminds me of James Bonds mate Smile

Simmylou · 07/01/2011 21:21

Waff waff ShoppingDays! Grin As it happens Scarlett is a BLACK name, not scarlet as you would expect! Ruby is, however, indeed, red. Smile

My my, Minipie, I will have to put my thinking cap on! The way it works is if I hear a name I immediately know its colour. It's harder to think of the colour and then the names to go with.

But what I will do is look at the top 100 names and see if there are any more "orange" names Smile Any other colours you like that I can check out for you while I'm there? Wink

ShoppingDays · 07/01/2011 16:20

What colour are Scarlett and Ruby?

minipie · 07/01/2011 14:39

I like it

Simmylou - out of interest, what other names do you find are "orange" since I really like both Felix and Tess/Tessa and wonder if that might be a way to find other names I like?!

Jojay · 07/01/2011 14:36

I like it

mumoftoomany · 07/01/2011 14:30

My dh vetoed both Felix and Oscar due to the Odd Couple. But the cat food association is always in my mind too.

diddl · 07/01/2011 13:02

I love it & if husband had agreed-and I´d had 2 boys, they would be Felix & Oscar.

So a name being "orange" is bad?

Funny because to me orange is a warm, sunny, happy colour.

Rhubarbgarden · 06/01/2011 20:48

Grin Simmylou. al the names I considered for dd were dark red or pale blue.

ShoppingDays · 06/01/2011 20:29

Love it :)

Simmylou · 06/01/2011 20:10

Sorry OP - in response to the actual thread (got sidetracked) I like Felix a lot if I ignore the orange element. I know some people would associate it with the cat food but TBH I think that shows (no offence to those that do) a lack of imagination and an ability to be sucked in and brainwashed by advertising instead of considering on own merits. The name Felix has been around a lot longer as a male name, than the cat food Hmm in fact Felix is raaaally quite poshe.
