only ttc at the moment but interested in opinions.

i really struggle with girl's names, but somehow during a late night conversation DH and I discovered we actually both liked the above as a name for imaginary dc2 if a girl.

would be Lois Catherine (surname).

thanks in advance. have namechanged for this just in case of encountering my rl friends. :)

very stuck for potential boy names, that'll be another thread soon!

I know an Imogen, pronounced with a hard g, G for goat iyswim. Her parents must have read it, not heard it pronounced.
never met a Loice though.

Lois is nice.

Hi TheBreastmilksOnMe - I live in Wales too! And still think the parents must have made a mistake! You must be up in the North ....

;-) Just kidding x

Komondor · 04/01/2011 12:29

Love it. I think of Lois Lane, and The Last September (a book where the principal character was Lois).

Actually Nightstar you are wrong there I know of several children who are called 'Lois' and it is pronounced 'Loice'. I live in Wales though so maybe it's a Welsh thing. I think it's very pretty pronounced this way.

i suppose it's unlikely that there's a name out there that everybody likes!

thanks for feedback and a chat. :)

Dislike it, sorry.

Nightstar · 03/01/2011 22:31

Don't be daft, nobody pronounces it Loice, that's some daft person who didnt know how to pronounce it and gave it to their child as a name without realising how its supposed to be said.

You wont believe this but i met a child recently called Sean. Not pronounced Shawn but Seeen. I was v confused and the mum said "You know, Like Seeen Connery". I didnt have the heart to tell her..........

coco2901 · 03/01/2011 21:36

I love it, unfortunately OH doesnt so it was booted off our shortlist :(

piprabbit · 03/01/2011 21:12

I've hear people say Loice instead of Lice when talking about headlice - must be an accent, but I'm not sure where it comes from.

snapcrunch · 03/01/2011 21:04

if we used it i can't imagine us pronouncing it like voice though i don't think.

OP posts:
snapcrunch · 03/01/2011 21:01

i think I've only heard it the 'Low-iss' way.

embarrassingly i don't really know the origins of the name or how it 'should' sound. Blush

tried to look it up there but my phone couldn't cope with the page i loaded!

SlightlyTubbyHali · 03/01/2011 21:00

TBOM: do you mean "Loice"?

I've only ever heard it pronounced Low-is.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 03/01/2011 20:51

I like it if it is pronounced sounding like 'voice' and not the female version of 'Lewis'.

snapcrunch · 03/01/2011 20:49

I'd forgotten that Lois! i watched enough episodes as well.

CuppaTeaJanice · 03/01/2011 20:33

I like it a lot. I also like the longer version Eloise.

The mum in Malcolm in the Middle is a Lois too - must be popular in America!

snapcrunch · 03/01/2011 20:29

thanks, seems mostly positive then.

all i need to do now is get pregnant again. :-)

tbh i can't remember the movie Lois much, think Teri Hatcher would be who I'd picture!

ShoppingDays · 03/01/2011 20:12

I like it. Lois Catherine would be a lovely name :)

mcfee · 03/01/2011 20:08

I love it!

Nightstar · 03/01/2011 19:52

I love it. Though i personally like the Lois Lane idea. She was a fab role model. She was a daring Investigative Reporter. A real career girl who was also v attractive (or supposed to be!) I like Terri Hatcher in the role best.

How could you ask for a better role model?

Edmundo · 03/01/2011 19:37

I always mishear it as Lewis. Not keen.

ohnoshedittant · 03/01/2011 17:02

I don't like it

ValiumTinselton · 03/01/2011 17:00

Oh I do, it's lovely.

snapcrunch · 03/01/2011 16:37

although I'm pretty sure he wanted to be Superman as a little boy, he didn't appear to give a crap about Ms Lane. :)
