Hi,

I've been banging on to DH about calling DC is DS..Hamish. DH isn't keen Sad He wants James...! Go figure it's the same name..just Scottish vs England...Wink
Anyway...on my brave list I had Tristan, Kit and Lawrence...DH has returned to me suggesting Tristan...Hurrah we are making headway..

What do you think?

Three syllable surname, starting with 'M'

Still pushing for Kit (for me this is super brave) and Lawrence.

Thanks,

I've already got a thread running ' DH's Boys Name's'. So sorry to trouble you all again...DC due in 6 weeks so you'll get rid of me then!!! Wink

Love Tristan. Kit makes me think of the car in Knightrider. How about Keir?

allnightlong · 03/01/2011 22:38

There are loads of James in scotland of all generations, I've always viewed it far more as a Scottish name.

allnightlong · 03/01/2011 22:37

LOL I have a young cousin called Kai and I quite agree esp since he was named after his fathers old dog!

Kit is a cute boys name but not sure it works for a man imo hence why I'd go saftey option of full first name with Kit as NN. But if you love Kit and only Kit then go for it, as long as you and your DH like it then thats what matters for now.

Highlandgirl · 03/01/2011 21:14

Don't think Kit is than bad Allnight I grew up with a boy called Kim who had red hair!!

Better than (IMO) the likes of Kai!

Hamish and James are the same name...Hamish is Scottish for James...!!! Very annoying!

Not keen on Laurie, Larry etc etc, however my friend BF is called Lawrence and he's never had a nn. So I live in hope Smile

Kit with our surname is just so flaming cool if only I could find a 'proper' name that i liked that isn't Christoper....Hmm

Kit if not a NN is just plain silly and your DS may not thank you as an adult.

1percentawake · 03/01/2011 20:36

Hamish is great can you not persuade DH? Sorry, James is dull although will probably not date!

DS is Laurence and we call him Laurie for short. Is starting to get Loz and Lol at school so they will always find a way!

EricNorthmansMistress · 03/01/2011 19:57

I like all of them! James a bit dull though, Hamish is great, Kit is nice (I have a brother named Kit) Laurence and Tristan are great. I have never been called by a NN despite having a 2/3 sylable (sp? mind gone blank) name, so there is no reason why your DS would necessarily.

Highlandgirl · 03/01/2011 17:48

I have no idea why DH doesn't like Hamish....Sad but he just doesn't.

Brad Pitt...that's way I like to the name so much..Grin

Lovely. DD1 would have been Laurence/Laurie if she had been ds (prefer the 'u' rather than 'w' spelling). Love Tristan too and Kit is also nice. Kit maybe better as a mn/nn - the others have more 'weight' iyswim.

thenightsky · 03/01/2011 16:43

I've got a Lawrence, although he is now 19. It was very unusual at the time. To put your mind at rest OP, nobody has ever called him Laurie. He gets Lol as a nickname though.

allbie · 03/01/2011 16:38

Like Lawrence and Kit. Tristan isn't a fav but neither is James. Like Hamish too.

tebbles · 03/01/2011 14:46

Why doesnt he like Hamish? Much nicer than the others IMO.

James is the second best but it is dull.

I'm sorry I really dont like Tristan (too feminine sounding and Brad Pitt didnt change this).

Lawrence is not very nice for a little boy being born now, as it is dated but not dated enough IYSWIM. Maybe it will be better in 20 years but at the moment it reminds me of a 60 year old balding man.

I dont like Kit for Christopher either.

minervaitalica · 03/01/2011 13:12

Kit is not a name sorry - nickname for Christopher (OK, if you exclude David Hasselhoff's old car).

Hamish and Tristan are nice (Hamish is very popular though), Lawrence is fine (although yes, I would not like Laurie either - a bit girly).

hulabula · 03/01/2011 10:11

Tristan is too close to triste (sad) for me, but I like Lawrence. Laurence is the feminine version of Laurent in French.

ensure · 03/01/2011 10:07

I don't like Kit. Others are nice, I like Hamish and Lawrence best I think.

MentalFloss · 03/01/2011 09:46

I have a Tristan so am a bit biased but I can assure you that he is not frilly but a rugby player!

I just love the name because it is medievalish and makes me think of Arthur and the round table etc!

ShoppingDays · 03/01/2011 09:45

Tristan and Laurence are both lovely :)

Really dislike Kit, which doesn't sound like a proper name to me (even if it is).

SlightlyTubbyHali · 03/01/2011 09:41

Yup, frilly. Sorry. Grin

Agree with you re Laurie though. Lawrence is fab (how do you feel about nn Larry - hard to prevent a nn with a long name I think).

If you want to avoid all nicknames, Kit is the way forward.

LetThereBeRock · 03/01/2011 09:38

Love Tristan and love Kit. I really don't like Lawrence.

seeker · 03/01/2011 09:23

Ah, just seen no Christopher. No Kit then, sorry.

Lawrence. But bearing in mind you can't control nicknames - he will probably be Laurie whether you like it or not.

seeker · 03/01/2011 09:22

Christopher, Christian or possibly Kester (not sure about that) shortened to Kit. Lovely.

That gives him a choice if he thinks Kit is too girly. Which he might.

TyraG · 03/01/2011 09:19

I think Tristan Lawrence would be a good name.

BuckBuckMcFate · 03/01/2011 09:18

Kit, Kit, Kit!

I love it. Just had DS3. Unfortunately Kit is too similar to DS1's nn (which he is called more than his full name) so couldn't have Kit for DS3 and still a bit Sad about it.

In case you missed it, I vote KIT!

Tillyscoutsmum · 03/01/2011 09:14

I really like Lawrence (but prefer Laurence for some reason ?). It was on our short list for DS. Tristan is ok but a little bit "posh" for my tastes. I really like Kit but it would be a brave choice for me as well and I'm not that keen on Christopher
