Hi,

I've been banging on to DH about calling DC is DS..Hamish. DH isn't keen Sad He wants James...! Go figure it's the same name..just Scottish vs England...Wink
Anyway...on my brave list I had Tristan, Kit and Lawrence...DH has returned to me suggesting Tristan...Hurrah we are making headway..

What do you think?

Three syllable surname, starting with 'M'

Still pushing for Kit (for me this is super brave) and Lawrence.

Thanks,

I've already got a thread running ' DH's Boys Name's'. So sorry to trouble you all again...DC due in 6 weeks so you'll get rid of me then!!! Wink

Hello!

Nooka no we aren't having twins...! Goodness not sure i could name 2 children at once...Grin
LittleMsH I like 'proper names' too hence why I'm a bit put off by Kit, but it's just soooo cool.

Not keen on Kester or Lance at all...!

DH has asked me to drop the DS names until DC arrives..I think were having a boy and DH thinks after fussing about DS names it will be a girl..no doubt he'll be right, sods law!

At this rate it will be James...which is a fine name Hmm

If Kit goes really well with your surname then you should just call him that!

I like thinking of the full name as a package, especially for boys as they are less likely to change it when married.

Also consider if the full name is masculine enough as I know there are a few Kitty's being born.

LittleMsH · 06/01/2011 16:59

We're considering Kit so I'd vote that. I don't like Christopher either (though Kester is ace, thanks pranma). I actually like all of them, though Kit and Lawrence the most. I'm never sure how I feel about the notion of 'proper names'. Before I was pregnant I was very much a 'call your child what you like', but now I am I kind of want to give the kid a few options...

nooka · 05/01/2011 05:52

Lance is an alternative shortening for Lawrence (we had a family friend called Lance). I'd avoid names that have obvious nns that I really disliked though. I really like Kit but not as a proper name. I don't think that any of the names you are talking about are particularly 'brave', and honor is lovely. Are you expecting twins and need combinations? Not sure that Kit and Honor quite work, although I'm not generally one for matching names I think that a slightly longer name would be better.

pranma · 04/01/2011 20:18

Kit can be short for Kester[an old form of Christopher]

Highlandgirl · 04/01/2011 20:15

I've met several guys called Lawrence who have never been called anything other than their full name...!

Love Hamish and like Kit. Lawrence would be in danger of being shortened to Laurie so if you hate it I'd steer clear. Agree that Tristan is a bit frilly.

Highlandgirl · 04/01/2011 14:36

Autumn ....Hello I'm Tit...BRILLIANT!

The Adventures of Kit (Surname) sounds like a book...he may write!

If DC is a DG we like to call her Honor..but i'm not sure which DS name works best.

Honor and Hamish (bit of month full)
Honor and James (Nice but err dull?)
Honor and Lawrence ??
Honor and Tristan ??
Honor and Kit ??

Oh bloody hell next time i'm finding out the sodding sex..no doubt this is all pointless and i'll end up with 2 girls or 2 boys..!! Grin

ds2 gets called Kit K/Cat at home, but then he hasn't quite perfected pronouncing the K and goes up to strangers and announces "hello, I'm Tit" Grin

allnightlong · 04/01/2011 13:15

Kit imo goes better with a long surname than a short one, to short and snappy it comes across a bit Kit Kat.

ragged · 04/01/2011 13:06

I have a Tristan and he is a hyper-everything cry-baby thug. So... er, not frilly at any rate. He gets mistakenly called Justin, Dustin, Christian, all sorts but his proper name (sigh).

"Kit" with a long surname doesn't work well for me. I guess I feel that surnames and forenames ought to match up a bit.

neolara · 04/01/2011 13:01

I know a Kit and Lawrence. Both lovely and IMO you don't need to be brave to use them.

allnightlong · 04/01/2011 12:57

haha Don't feel bad I laughed when I read it. Grin

ComeAlongPond · 04/01/2011 12:56

Tristan strikes me as a bit 'trendy' at the moment. I like the name though.

Lawrence is my favourite, though probably would be called "Loz" quite a lot ime (happens to both the Laura and the Laurence I know).

Kit is fab. I do prefer it as a nickname, but tricky if you don't like Christopher...

Highlandgirl · 04/01/2011 12:50

allnightlong I feel really bad..foot in mouth....! I think WAG and Popstars etc etc have a lot to answer for when it comes to baby names..!

Autumn you are right, DH checked last night, Kit come before Chris...!

allnightlong · 04/01/2011 12:26

Grin the chances of choosing a family name...well fairly high when it bloody Kai!
I blame wags too can't believe it's becoming popular.

Komondor · 04/01/2011 12:08

all super names.

Love the name Kit, went to school with a Kit and he was v good looking.

Tristan - great name

Lawrence (Laurie) - another great name.

AutumnWitch · 04/01/2011 11:24

ds2 is a Christopher, but is always shortened to Kit which is why I chose it, love the name and it seems to suit him. If he grows up to hate Kit he can always go back.

I think Kit is actually the original short form of Christopher, long before there was Chris (Christopher/Kit Marlowe).

I like Lawrence too, undecided on Tristan.

Highlandgirl · 04/01/2011 11:09

MrsRhettButler you are funny...!!

Not sure about Christian..will need to think it over.

streptococcus been on Wiki and whist lots of people are called Kit...most of them are called Christopher..which I HATE.

Maybe we should have a girl and call her Katherine nn Kit...!!

OP posts:
MrsRhettButler · 04/01/2011 00:10

oooh, how about christian? sounds a bit like tristan and you could shorten it to kit!

MrsRhettButler · 04/01/2011 00:03

kit = car

tristan = brad pitt

laurie = little women

no contest really Grin

(its gotta be brad Wink )

Highlandgirl · 03/01/2011 23:58

OMG allnightlong what are the chances of me picking a family name....!!!!!! HAHAHA

I blame the WAGS! [grins]

pink4ever · 03/01/2011 22:49

I really wanted Tristan for our ds but dh said no way! Also like Laurence but would not call a baby Kit(even though I like that too) because I dont think kids should have nicknames instead of proper names. Why not just put christopher on birth certificate but insist everyone calls him kit?(best of both worlds).

streptococcus · 03/01/2011 22:47

I know a kit. not a silly name at all.

look on wikipedia... plenty of interesting grown ups have it as their name. good name for a laywer or doctor!

but then I went for very dull boys names so what do i know!!!
