Think we've decided... Kasper James

Fairly sure we're going to call DS1, due later this month, Kasper James + 2 syllable surname.

What do you think? Any other thoughts on middle names?

Previous choice was Xander (DP's favourite) but I vetoed it.

Casper just brings up the image of the little white ghost. I think it's a nice name but first thought on hearing it is the friendly ghost.

freerangeeggs · 04/01/2011 20:18

Ooh I love Casper/Caspar. Excellent name!!

JojoMags · 04/01/2011 20:12

Casper, not Kasper.

Rhubarbgarden · 03/01/2011 22:56

I love Gaspar! I have to say it in a dramatic voice though.

Nightstar · 03/01/2011 22:36

It's so nice when someone gets feedback that actually helps them. :-)

Lots of people say negative things (even though we only say them to try to help) and it ends badly, so am v happy this thread has reached such a nice conclusion.

I raise my glass (of soft drink) to Caspar James and salute your use of backgrounds in the correct context LOL

babynoname · 03/01/2011 20:39

Nightstar, yes, Iran. The original name is Gaspar but Caspar is the most common variant these days I believe. And yes James is the middle name. :)

Think we have been swayed - I'm so glad I posted! I was having doubts about the K and showed DP this thread and he agrees that there are more reasons for C than K. The only reason we were initially disinclined to spell it Caspar is because we thought it might be interpreted a a misspelling but it seems the consensus is that this spelling is known and popular so it looks like we will be going with that!

As I said, it is far more fitting with my background - and James is DP's lovely brother so both names have personal ties. Thanks again for all the really useful comments. :)

Kasper with a K looks wrong, trying too hard and he will spend his whole life correcting people who spell it with a C.

hippipotamiHasLost92lbs · 03/01/2011 20:07

Thanks for taking my comments in the spirit they were intended Smile

I Love Love Love Caspar and I don't think he would be CasparwithanA and I think you can pronounce it so the emphasis is on the second A.

(My sil is Caron and makes a point of the 'on' ending so that no one can mistake her name for Karen Smile)

Caspar James is great!!

Love Xander too, very much so.

suzikettles · 03/01/2011 19:58

I would always spell it Caspar. Tbh I'd assume Casper was a spelling mistake although presumably it's a common varient.

ImMandyFlyMe · 03/01/2011 19:57

Makes me think of Kaspar Hausar - google

Nightstar · 03/01/2011 19:56

If you have a Persian background (Isnt this now Iran?) then definitely Caspar with a C, as in the Three Wise Men? Weren't they from Persia or similar?

Please tell me you arent going for double first name? I couldnt quite tell?

I'm hoping James is your middle name? In which case, yes, it's just lovely! x

ShowOfHands · 03/01/2011 19:55

Caspar.

I think if you're in this country that's the spelling most will assume anyway.

Lovely name.

Edmundo · 03/01/2011 19:52

I absolutely love it spelt Caspar!

babynoname · 03/01/2011 13:59

Thanks for the comments!

The more I think about it the more inclined I am to spell it with a C. Hippi, you make a good point about him being KasperwithaK.

Caspar is the closest to the original name in Persian (my background) and now we are thinking perhaps this is the way to go... but then will he be CasparwithanAattheend or CasparwithadoubleA?! Grin Tricky! We both really like the double A.

The Krispy Kreme comments made me lol! I don't want to do that to him, I totally take the point. Thinking perhaps that as we are not German we should leave the K alone (also have read about it being something to do with clowns/Punch & Judy-esque things, as you mention hulabula).

Xander was vetoed because it is too close to my brother's name (Alexander) and we don't want to name him "after" my brother because he is not the best role model in the world. Also he will be born very close to, if not on, my brother's birthday, which makes it even more of a no-no to me! But otherwise, yes, lovely name.

I know a 10yr old Caspar and a 6yr old Casper. I quite like it with an a. Think it goes great with James.

To me it just dosent look right starting with a K, For some reason i think it makes the name seem quite harsh.

hulabula · 03/01/2011 10:10

A Kasper is a clown/buffon in German. It is a well known word for someone silly.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 03/01/2011 10:07

Both Xander and Casper are so much nicer than Kasper. Agree with darlene about the whiff.

Lamorna · 03/01/2011 09:57

Only with a C. Why do you want him to have a lifetime of having to correct people? I might well assume that the parents couldn't spell!

EricNorthmansMistress · 03/01/2011 09:55

Caspar is nice, it looks right, and fits with your background. Unless you are persian/german, don't do Kasper.

Christmasbelle · 03/01/2011 09:51

I love Kasper with a K. I am not normally a fan of alternative/unpopular spellings but in this case I am totally with you. I must say, I also love the name Xander. Kasper (with a K), Felix and Xander were all on my shortlist for a boy Grin

hippipotamiHasLost92lbs · 03/01/2011 09:49

oh, plus, he will be known as 'CasperwithaK' for all of his life, as most people (unless he moves to a German speaking country) will assume it is with a C.

hippipotamiHasLost92lbs · 03/01/2011 09:48

I love Casper, but with a C. I agree that you should really only spell it with a K if you are German or have German somewhere in your lineage. Otherwise it looks too try-hard, too 'keen to be different'. And, like the Krispy Kreme it comes across as a wee bit naff.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 03/01/2011 09:45

Only with a C.

ShoppingDays · 03/01/2011 09:44

Nice, but definitely with a C not a K.

LetThereBeRock · 03/01/2011 09:37

It's gorgeous,and while I'm not generally fond of K names,I love this and it's a legitimate spelling,and how the,German,Kasper I know spells his name.

I prefer it with the K actually.
