Is the name Skyla (and yes it can be spelt this way) really that bad??
I have had so many mixed reactions to this name for a girl, mainly negative, but i really like it and don't seem to like any other name.
I really like the unusual girl's names, and i called my first Summer and it really suits her.

Reminds me of the baddie with the eyebrow on Heroes.

I like Skye though. Skye and Summer sound nice together.

I like Skyla.. Always have since watching the film 'Good Will Hunting' (Matt Damon, excellent film one of my all time favourites!) His love interest in the film (played by Minnie Driver) is called Skyla.
Onion1968 I think it is ok to post something important on here a few times, you may just get some different perspectives that will help you make a decision! I've not read a post about this before. There are always new people joining who have an opinion. People don't have to respond if they have had enough of it, it's an open forum. That's why MN is so good isn't it?

Pancakeflipper · 16/03/2011 21:29

I don't like Skyla. I keep seeing various threads on here about this name ( is it super popular or just the 1 poster?) and each time it grates on me just a little bit more. It's abit trying too hard for me.

And G&S reference just makes me smile.

Heaven Lee - I snorted out loud then. Grin Brilliant

BarryShitpeas · 16/03/2011 21:28

no

Onion1968 · 16/03/2011 21:23

Sum04, I have actually said lots of good things about other people's name choices - and yes I have given honest opinions on names that I don't like. I know there is no limit to the amount of posts, my point was that you asked what people thought and they gave you their opinions which seemed to be mostly against the name (with a preference for Skye). You then posted twice more and the reponse was similar. I was only making the point that people have given their opinion and that you need to either go with your heart and choose it or, listen to the advice.

sum04 · 15/03/2011 21:27

Onion1968- There is no rule on how many posts you can make and it seems to me that you don't have a good word to say on anyone's posts.
Your obviously only on here for one reason and it's certainly not looking up ideas on names!!!

There's a kid at my friend's school called Skyla Blue. Her sister is called Heaven Lee. :)

Onion1968 · 14/03/2011 21:59

This is the 3rd post that I have seen where you ask about this name. You have seen the feedback so you need to either just choose it or actually take people's advice. Keeping asking the same thing won't change peoples opinions. I still think it's awful unless it is the name for a people carrier or a hatchback.

TubbyDuffs · 14/03/2011 19:12

Sorry but Gavin & Stacey was the first thing that came into my head when hearing that name.

orienteerer · 14/03/2011 19:07
Biscuit
alexaj · 14/03/2011 19:06

I think Skylar's very chavvy. Eurgh! People name their dogs Skylar. Skye's not much better TBH.

usualsuspect · 14/03/2011 16:45

I like it

MyMamaToldMe · 14/03/2011 16:43

I love the name Skyla and my DD's second name is Summer!

BarbieLovesKen · 14/03/2011 16:40

Skyla is ok. I've heard worse.

On the other hand, Skye and Summer are both beautiful and would be really lovely together - would you consider Skye?

breadandhoney · 14/03/2011 16:37

Yes it is that bad imo.

birdofthenorth · 14/03/2011 15:34

It's the boys name in Mama Mia, but quite femine I think. Bound to be abbreviated to Skye though, and Summer & Sky does sound a bit full-of-the-joys-of-spring, but I still quite like it!

meditrina · 13/03/2011 16:49

Sorry, I don't like it. I'd prefer Skye or Kylie.

follyfoot · 13/03/2011 16:43

Its a personal choice of course, but I didnt see which topic this was posted in and assumed it was a new TV channel (seriously). Well there's Sky Atlantic, so I thought there must now be Sky L.A.

Think that means its a 'no' from me

i love the name and was going to use it for a girl - i had a boy called Kayden - alot of people including my mother said they hated both names- well i dont and i dont care what other people think and it irritates them even more when i call him kayde :-) if i have another boy id call him Kayne - i like the idea of matching names and now i am having kyla ideas for a girl !!

SleightiesChick · 01/01/2011 23:53

It's your choice - I don't personally like it, but also I wouldn't personally give two of my kids the same initial. I'd rather they had names more different from one another. Kyla?

Nightstar · 01/01/2011 23:47

Call her what ever you like, you did with the first one!

mathanxiety · 01/01/2011 23:42

Yes it really is that bad.

It looks like 'Skylark', truncated. Or like Kyla all gussied up and rendered 'unique'.

tebbles · 01/01/2011 23:25

I think Skyla and Summer are great sister names.
