How about a revival in baby boomer names?

Every seems to want a unique name, so if you really want to stand out, why not choose a baby boomer name, popular in the 60s. It's time for a revival of some of these classics:

Wayne
Steve
Andy
Nigel
Peter
Paul
Kevin
Simon

Tracy/Tracey
Sharon nn Shaz of course
Sarah
Susan
Alison
Jane
Paula
Pauline

Any takers?

Definitely David. And Neil?

What about David? Every other boy used to be called Dave.

There are two Sarahs and a Susan in my daughters year at school, so those names aren't dying out just yet!

"You forgot Carol, Julie, Janet and Jackie."
I certainly did - does Janice count too? Wink

according to this the babyboomers went up the mid 60s, but point taken. The Tracys/Waynes/Shazzas are probably a bit more late 60s early 70s, no?

You forgot Carol, Julie, Janet and Jackie.

Approximately three quarters of female office workers 'of a certain age' have the above names.

I thought 'baby boomers' referred to people born 1945-1955 though, after all the post-war celebration shagging?

well, that was a pretty garbled first sentence! Sorry!

I love Sharon - it is so pretty, especially if pronounced as Ariel Sharon surname,

Peter is lovely (ds's mn, sometimes wish I had used it as a first), I know a little Paul.

Susan and Jane are gorgeous, and would use both in a heartbeat if I had enough dc's to use up all the names I loved!

AnnOnimous · 19/12/2010 14:03

Simon, Andrew, Alison and Jane are all still perfectly fine.

I like Susan, Jill/Gillian, Jennifer and Jane, which are all very 'baby boomer'.

Also like the 'plain' boys names like John, Mark, Michael that were popular from 50s-70s.

I don't think Wayne is coming back any time soon, though Grin

meandjoe · 19/12/2010 13:52

Wayne, Pauline and Sharon were more popular in the 70s.... and that's exactly where they should stay!

I like Simon though and Steven/ Stephen.

My DS is called Simon. He's 3 and I adore the name.

I also don't mind Peter, Jane, Sarah and Alison.

I don't think I would put Wayne, Kevin, Tracy, Pauline and Sharon in the same grouping.
