Paloma?

We had our 20 week scan on Friday and the sonographer told me (dh)doesn't want to know sex, that the baby is a girl! We have very different ideas when it comes to names and struggled to name our 3 ds. However last night when we were watching 'Strictly,' Paloma Faith came on and my dh said although her name was unusual he quite likes it and I have to say so do I. I think it will end up being a name we like but are not brave enough to use. What does everyone else think??

I don't like it tbh , sorry, but it is a perfectly normal Spanish name and means of course Dove which is alright. If you like it, use it.

Fourleaf · 27/12/2010 14:05

IMHO it is too trendy ATM due to Paloma Faith. Not saying it is a popular baby name, but just that everyone would associate it with her. If you don't mind that then go for it - it isn't an outlandish choice at all, because of the famous Paloma. Bit like Keira or Sienna.

glastocat · 24/12/2010 13:59

Not unless you are Spanish.

nancy10 · 24/12/2010 13:29

I still think it's quite sweet but still not 100% sure. stuffedmk Palomino is a colour of a horse which is probably why you're thinking of horses. The name is on our list of a hundred other girls names! Xmas Smile

Makes me think of a horse for some reason

tammytoby · 21/12/2010 21:47

I think Paloma is beautiful - feminine, classic and very international (works in most languages).

Also love the fact that it isn't already used by thousands of little girls (like Ellie, Millie, Grace etc).

littleomar · 21/12/2010 21:43

my second would have been Paloma if he'd been a girl. we're not remotely spanish btw. lovely, go for it.

LetThereBeRock · 21/12/2010 21:39

It's awful.It sounds like a medical complaint.

It sounds like some kind of mole to me. "I'm sorry madam, we've sent your mole to be analysed at the lab and i'm afraid it's a paloma."

There is a colour of horse called Palamino, which sounds slightly nicer.

Or a city called Palermo, which is in Italy i think

Sorry clutching at straws to say something nice!

ivykaty44 · 21/12/2010 18:18

I muct admit the other poster is right, it sounds like a heart condition Sad

mathanxiety · 21/12/2010 18:14

If you love it, why opt for something safe?

cowboylover · 21/12/2010 15:11

I really like it! Its on our long version of the shortlist if that makes sence.

nancy10 · 21/12/2010 10:46

This will be our first dd, I doubt we'll call her Paloma as I'm too much of a wimp to go for something out of the ordinary. But I do think it's pretty. Might consider it for a middle name!

I think it's awful. Sorry.

seeker · 21/12/2010 06:44

I think it depends a bit on your last name. Is it a very British, soen to earth sort of name? If so, I don't think it would work.

mathanxiety · 21/12/2010 06:30

A beautiful name imo. Unusual and yet easy to pronounce, and has a lovely meaning.

SE13Mummy · 20/12/2010 23:04

I have taught a lovely Paloma and as I don't know any others, rather like it!

KittyTwoShoes · 20/12/2010 20:40

It's a beautiful name imo. It does make me think of Paloma Picasso but once people know your DD they will associate it with her first so I don't suppose that really matters.

What are your other DD's names?

nymphadora · 19/12/2010 17:13

I like it

littleElif · 19/12/2010 16:56

I love it - was on our shortlist for DD2 :)

mousesma · 19/12/2010 15:57

i don't hate it but i would find it a bit unusual for a child with no spanish heritage to have this name.

nancy10 · 19/12/2010 15:23

Thanks for your replies. I didn't watch the apprentice, so can't comment on that Paloma. I like it and it was odd that the name we both quite liked is unusual and yet we can't agree on any other names. And I did think more of you would hate it! Grin

Paloma Picasso or Paloma Faith. Both as bad as each other. Awful, imo only of course!

sadiesadiemarriedlady · 19/12/2010 13:20

LOVE IT!!!!!
