Hi all, ive just found out im pregnant and although i have a long way to go before he/she arrives me and my partner are already talking about names. At this rate it will take us forever to find a name that we both like.I like traditional and unusual names but not wacky! for girls names i would like a girly name.

boys:
oliver (nn ollie)
archie
william
jenson
rafferty
dylan
roman
bruno

girls:
no ideas!

any suggestions for both boys/girls would be great.

Well, I would not say many of your boys names are unusual, Oliver, Archie andWilliam are very common. Jenson is a bit naff. Rafferty is ok, Raff is a nice nickname. Dylan s ok, again, there are lots of them. Roman - no.
LOVE Bruno - it is absolutely wonderful!

For girls how about

Rosalind
Miriam
Penelope
Fleur
Sarah
Eliza
Constance
Tabitha
Louisa
Pearl
Sally
Esmeralda
Polly
Queenie
Nina
Cordelia
Agatha
Dahlia
Imogen
Arabella
Juniper
Saffron
Luna
Primrose
Nettle
Rowena
Georgina
Mabel
Violet
Gloria - I LOVE this and cannot use it - you may have it!
Sybil
Daphne
Lily
Xanthe
Beatrix
Morag
Priscilla
Diana
Flora

Do you like any?
From your boys I love Bruno, and maybe Rafferty, then William. Not keen on the rest.

In my (limited) experience of names you will choose one that is not THAT popular but that year it will rise in popularity and become very common... or even if you choose a name that is not that common on lists sods law there are 3 children with that name in dc class :)

Buy a name book and read it

Congratulations jem21 Xmas Smile.

From your boys names I like Oliver, William and Bruno but Oliver and William are very, very popular right now. Don't know if popularity is an issue for you though.

Not keen on Archie as Archie and Alfie as so popular an I prefer full names to shortened ones, that is just my preference though. Jenson, rafferty and dylan will date quickly and Roman, well I'm just not keen on it.

If you like traditional but unusual girls names how about something like Christabel?

National Statistics have a list of the most popular names for 2009, it might give you some inspiration and an idea of how popular names are right now. However, it is national and name choices seem to be regional. Some posters say that names like Evie are very popular for instance while others post to say that they don't know any.
