There are some names which I've been quite surprised to see returning. For example, Edith was my granny's name. Much as I loved her, I was never keen on the name and can only presume the little Ediths now arriving are due to the Radio 1 DJ or something.

Are there any names which would surprise you if they were revived? For me, the list might include:

Girls

Doris
Ermyntrude
Gertrude

Boys

Arnold
Herbert
Roderick

I do look forward to 1960s and 1970s names being brought back by our children's children. I'm not going to be able to restrain myself if my son calls his child Scott or Michelle.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 18/12/2010 20:44

fair enough Georgi, maybe I'm just being touchy Grin

LetThereBeRock · 18/12/2010 20:44

I know quite a few young and Scottish, boys called Hamish.

Snakeears · 18/12/2010 20:43

I know of a baby ernest - or ernie! Never thought that would come back

Georgimama · 18/12/2010 20:43

My son's name, my mother's name, her brothers' names and her sisters' names are all on this thread. I still think it's funny.

RockinRobinBird · 18/12/2010 20:43

Woman in my ante natal group called her son Ray. I must admit to a Hmm face in my head though absolutely never to her face.

Alan is my dad's name and if this one is a boy it will be in there somewhere. I do sometimes ponder it for a first name.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 18/12/2010 20:41

bahrain - yes, but there will be a lot of MNers with names/DC names on this thread!

NurseGladys · 18/12/2010 20:40

Do you Conker? Would they be Scottish Hamishes? Gary was the other name I was going to say is probably on its way out, quite popular in the 70s, I seem to recall...quite glad I didn't turn out to be a boy as parents threatened to name me Gary Shock

bahrainbabe · 18/12/2010 20:34

its only mean if your name or the name of one of your little ones is mentioned...otherwise it is quite fun!!!!

conkertree · 18/12/2010 20:33

I know a few young Hamishs nursegladys.

Know a lot of adult Garys but not children too.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 18/12/2010 20:30

rofl Spinny Grin

this is a bit of a mean thread though...

NurseGladys · 18/12/2010 20:29

Fanny is quite a popular name in France, can't help smirking everytime I see it written down though (childish, I know)
Also Hamish- have never come across this in Scotland, but have met several Hamishes in New Zealand! Have also met a Prudence...nothing wrong with a good, solid name- has to be better than calling your child Serenity River or Chaos (Yes, someone did name their son Chaos, poor child...)

LifeForRent · 18/12/2010 20:28

No, I'm 24 and know maybe 2 or 3 Scotts my age, but no recent babies...

conkertree · 18/12/2010 20:27

Anyone seen any Scotts recently? Had a couple in my class but havent heard of any baby Scotts since?

ha ha ha spinny that is so funny. Bless you.

bahrainbabe · 18/12/2010 20:21

Denise? My name and I hate it.
Margaret..
Annette
Chardonnay and all the popular made up 90's names

I prefer 'old' names to the made up ones that are popular today..my pet hate is the wrong spelling of a name.

SpinnyPenguin · 18/12/2010 20:19

Thanks a fucking BUNCH to the poster who lumped Alison and Jane (my first two names) with Kevin, Wayne, Sharon and Tracey
