There are some names which I've been quite surprised to see returning. For example, Edith was my granny's name. Much as I loved her, I was never keen on the name and can only presume the little Ediths now arriving are due to the Radio 1 DJ or something.

Are there any names which would surprise you if they were revived? For me, the list might include:

Girls

Doris
Ermyntrude
Gertrude

Boys

Arnold
Herbert
Roderick

msbossy · 18/12/2010 21:23

I'd list just about every name in my family from my parent's generation and older (and in-laws) but it would out me ;-o Needless to say, we avoid "family" names for DC.

Marlene is the pick of the bunch though!

NurseGladys · 18/12/2010 21:23

I know a young Lucretia! (wasn't that the title of a song by the Cult, or the Damned or some other Goth band??)

tomgoodswife · 18/12/2010 21:23

Someone I know had a little girl this week and has apparently called her Doreen - we are waiting to find out if it is a joke.

It's Scots for John, isn't it? I know loads of Ians in their 20s and 30s, but I can't imagine a baby Ian somehow.

LetThereBeRock · 18/12/2010 21:16

I know two baby Ians, and one toddler Ian. It's a lovely name imho.

Georgimama · 18/12/2010 21:14

Genghis?

Dear God.

KangarooCaught · 18/12/2010 21:12

I know/know of a Zebedee, Genghis, Norma, Mavis, Dennis, Hubert, Ronnie, Roderick..loads that have been suggested on here really. It ought to be named the up-and-coming thread instead. I often suggest Blythe on naming threads.

Think they all will resurface with maybe the exception of:

Myra (in the UK)
Adolph

nevergoogle · 18/12/2010 21:04

Does davecam not have an Arthur? And a Nancy, couldn't have foreseen that one coming back 10 years ago.

We might yet see the return of Sharon and Tracey

JarethTheGoblinKing · 18/12/2010 20:52

I've yet to find a Mavis who likes her name Grin

CaveMum · 18/12/2010 20:50

My grandmother was a Gertrude. I have my other grandmother's name as my middle name: Ivy.

Both my grandfather's were William's.

I've done a lot of research into our family history and have to say most of the names are classics (Sarah, John, William, etc) but there are a few standouts that I can't see coming back, funnily enough all female:

Querina (female born 1826)
Maron (female born 1724)
Eupheme (female born 1670)
Ellin (female born 1810)

LittlebearH · 18/12/2010 20:50

My friend has a Scott. He is 9

She hates it that his friends call him Scotty.....

snownelly · 18/12/2010 20:49

I quite like Percy Blush

WherecanIhide · 18/12/2010 20:48

Always suprised when I see/hear of an 'Arthur'. Too old man-ish.

bahrainbabe · 18/12/2010 20:46

I put my first and middle name on too... a name is just a name after all. If we all liked the same names we would all be called the same???

Hamish must be making a comeback in Scotland then! (It's been a while since I lived there....)
