There are some names which I've been quite surprised to see returning. For example, Edith was my granny's name. Much as I loved her, I was never keen on the name and can only presume the little Ediths now arriving are due to the Radio 1 DJ or something.

Are there any names which would surprise you if they were revived? For me, the list might include:

Girls

Doris
Ermyntrude
Gertrude

Boys

Arnold
Herbert
Roderick

Glad I'm not the only one who keeps an eye on that for trends! If I were more organised/obsessed I'd probably note them down and keep a chart!

We know a Herbie and a Herbert, both under 2!

Iwasthefourthwiseman · 18/12/2010 14:10

I saw a card for a Blythe on cbeebies the other day!

Ada is my tip for one that is/will come back.

I I can't see Sharon come back and in a few years I think Joshua and Alex will be very rare as there are so many of them atm! There will be a backlash.

I also can't see Sharon ever coming back - Maureen, Doreen, Doris, Margaret or Cheryl.

I am srprised someone has put Jane. I would have used it myself if I didn't already have someone in the family with that name.

Oh and Barbara was on my (secret from DH) list for DC3!

Oh and I also had Ronald (Ronnie on my list too, except the nn rhymes with DS1's name, so I couldn't have it.

Haha and just read Letitia - that was also on our list for DC3...

Oh well, definitely off trend then Grin

I don't think you could rule out any name. They all come back 'in' eventually.

Leanne/Leigh-Anne and Joanne were very popular when I was young, seem to have gone right out of fashion though and I'd be surprised if they came back any time soon. Same with Trac(e)y and Michelle.

Have a nephew Nigel Blush. He's now 17, it was a shock tbh as SIL had never mentioned the name as a possible whilst pregnant. He's a nice, if a bit dim, lad though.

tummytickler · 18/12/2010 12:59

I love Beryl. Every time I mention it on here it gets slated. Howard is glorious, and Howie is a cute nn. I also love Bernard as I think Bernie is cute too!

What's wrong with Lydia? This baby will be Lydia if it's a girl.

MiasMARY · 18/12/2010 12:54

Myrtle is just mean. Why would you do it to your own child ?!

Love trudy though. Shame it's short for gurtrude or ermintrude.

Can't see Beryl coming back any time soon. Or Vera ( but I quite like this too).
