There are some names which I've been quite surprised to see returning. For example, Edith was my granny's name. Much as I loved her, I was never keen on the name and can only presume the little Ediths now arriving are due to the Radio 1 DJ or something.

Are there any names which would surprise you if they were revived? For me, the list might include:

Girls

Doris
Ermyntrude
Gertrude

Boys

Arnold
Herbert
Roderick

alliew my teenage dds just looked at me and told me to go and lie down when i suggested it .now in my non hormonal state can see why gladys or glad ass was probably not a good idea.

Tuschinski · 18/12/2010 16:08

Mine! Shirley!
It is in a bay name book in the chapter called something like "names nobody is cool enough to pull off"!Blush

mousesma · 18/12/2010 16:08

i know several babies named Frank or Frankie so yes I can imagine that.

I think Mildred is particulary nasty for a girl, makes me think of mildew.

overmydeadbody · 18/12/2010 15:59

I know a Horatio, aged 4, nn Raychy

sophielouise · 18/12/2010 15:58

lol at Roger!

My grandad was called Frank but I don't see that happening. Can you imagine a baby Frank?

I had an aunt called Ethel - always thought that was a bit horrendous!

AllieW · 18/12/2010 15:57

smilingserenely, I'd never be able to use the name Gladys because of the 60s song, "Glad All Over" (feeling glad all over is part of the chorus!).

There's a Norman atDS's nursery.

Rindercella · 18/12/2010 15:51

Baby Colin would be cute. I felt really guilty for suggesting Colin, as it's my lovely big brother's name!

llareggub · 18/12/2010 15:47

I've met a few baby Colins.

I would have had an Agatha if DS had been a girl.

I love the name Lydia and know a few of them.

sharbie · 18/12/2010 15:44

I know a Trevor, or I did once. He would be 7 years old now.

Another name we won't see: Gay.

AnnOnimous · 18/12/2010 15:30

I actually really like Roddie, so could consider Roderick.

Brenda

tummytickler · 18/12/2010 14:38

I think Margaret is back, actually.
I also agree with Ada. People will want to move away from Ava, Eve, Evie and Eva, but will all go for Ada!

I love Sharon. It has such a lovely sound, but I fear it would take a lot to get away with being a Sharon now after the 'Sharon and Tracey' image . . . . hmm - could I use it? I wonder?

NorbertDentressangelOnTheTree · 18/12/2010 14:35
