Foolishly said in jest to DH (I do kind of like it too)

Now he's hooked on the name and I'm not sure.

What do you think?

Too noisy?

Too brash?

Or a lovely big personality name?

I love it-but then I would as it's my Dds name too!

sep1712 · 21/12/2010 21:21

My DD is Scarlet (not scarlet). Really suits her, very loud and in your face!
Often gets shorted to Scarly (Hate Scar), Also Toilet?
If I had to pick again I wouldn't pick Scarlet but as i said it does really suit her and we don't know anyothers. Also remember when there being really naughty that "tomorrows another day"!

Nightstar · 21/12/2010 20:44

It became very popular after actress Scarlett Johanssen became big about ten years ago.

I dont like it, it's not a gentle name, it's quite harsh pronounciation. Also the colour, it's really a strong colour, depends if you like it, personally i prefer softer greens and blues.

But the important thing really is if you like it, you will be saying it for years, that's why i would prefer something softer myself

cupcakebakerer · 21/12/2010 20:32

Would have been top of my list until a friend used it. Lovely.

StarlightPrincess · 21/12/2010 19:38

I love it, but then I'm biased- my daughter is a Scarlett.

MerryClitoris · 21/12/2010 16:24

There was a baby born the same time as DS called Scarlett. She had jaundice. Yes, I was sympathetic but did allow myself a small Grin at the irony.

rachxx · 21/12/2010 16:16

I do like it, but wouldn't have it as

1-my OH hated it
2-i know loads under the age of 5
3-its very much a name of the noughties

chelleyve · 21/12/2010 15:45

Scarlett was on my list until DH vetoed it... I love it because I think of Scarlett Johansson, who in my opinon is a beautiful looking girl and you never read bad press about her... he doesn't like because it reminds him of her (yet he thinks she is pretty) go figure!

BarbieLovesKen · 18/12/2010 22:54

I love it. Actually, as gone with the wind is my favourite film of all time (and we both love the names) dh and I have agreed that if this ones a girl she'll be Kate Scarlett (Katie while shes little Wink) so, yes, definately gets my vote.

tammytoby · 18/12/2010 21:55

I dislike it, mainly because of the Scar part of the name - it sounds like a little scar, a scarlett.

KittyTwoShoes · 18/12/2010 21:30

Scarlett is a lovely name. I know two from school but obviously they aren't little children! We call one Scarly and the other Lettie.

jinglingsal · 17/12/2010 19:08

It does get misspelled as Scarlet quite often. Also occasionally Charlotte Xmas Hmm

panettoinydog · 17/12/2010 19:06

I quite like Scarlett although a part of me thinks I shouldn't. I know that doesn't make much sense.

I think it can suit different characters too.

There is a lovely lovely picture book called Sacrlett(e?) Bean which I read to the dds when they were little.

ChoudeBruxelles · 17/12/2010 18:59

If DS had been a girl he would have been scarlett. Love it. Can shorten it to letti.

jinglingsal · 17/12/2010 18:57

DD is a Scarlett - nearly 12. Like restrainedrabbit's DD, she is a quiet and gentle but also quite independent. I was attracted to the "feisty" nature of the name, but in fact she's more calmly assertive, which is probably better!

12 years ago when we picked it, it was quite out there. The rellies were really shocked at the time. It's used more now, but hardly ubiquitous.

We've never shortened it, although I've noticed DS does tend to say "Scart" sometimes.

bb99 · 17/12/2010 18:50

Didn't know it was so popular (common)...

Knew it was in about the top 100, but haven't really looked too far into that.

She was Katie Scarlett O'Hara. Her mother's maiden name was Robillard. Smile

AllieW · 17/12/2010 13:58

Besides which, Scarlett O'Hara was actually called Kate, if I remember correctly. Scarlett was her mother's maiden name.

amberleaf · 17/12/2010 13:57

I agree with AllieW sorry

Secretwishescometrue · 17/12/2010 13:54

P.s. I think Charlotte has the same ring to it, do you like?

Secretwishescometrue · 17/12/2010 13:52

I think its lovely but if your not keen maybe use it as a middle if Dh really loves it? What else do you like?

5DollarShake · 17/12/2010 13:45

Will date too, I think, due to its popularity.

5DollarShake · 17/12/2010 13:44

It would be a nice name if it wasn't quite so common (and by common, I mean prevalent). It's like Ava - lovely name if she was the only one around, but loses something when everyone else has it, too.

Just my opinion.Xmas Smile

DiscoTex · 17/12/2010 10:13

I love the name Scarlett, and had always planned to use for my daughter, however it's become a bit popular for my liking now...

Xmas Sad
AllieW · 17/12/2010 10:00

I know lots of people like this but I can't stand this name, sorry. I always associate it with the phrase "scarlet woman" which is hardly complimentary!
