Darcey?

I have a 7yr old niece called Darci (my sister changed the spelling), and although we were all a little sceptical of the choice at first (was more uncommon then) we LOVE it now. People always comment on how lovely and unusual the name is.

doesn't stop us from referring to her as arsey darci behind her back when she throws a strop though

I think it's nice, makes me think of Darcey Bussell, and she's hardly 'chavvy', is she?

Like Isabella or Isobel, not keen on Poppy as it seems a little 'cutesy' and the others sound like old-lady names to me. Also I think it works better to have at least two syllables for the first name if you have a short surname.

I think it's sweet and not necessarily chavvy - as long as you don't spell it Darci!

OK, I confess, I too have a Darcey (but you'd guessed as much hadn't you?).

I love it, we're not a chavvy family and no-one abbreviates her name to Darce (yet).

I don't think you should use it, I'd like it to remain a rarely heard name .

Have you ever thought of Margaret instead of Pearl? It's the same meaning.

I have a Darcey too so obviously I'm a fan.

It's not too popular either which was quite important to me.

I like the name Pearl too.

Don't use all your favourite names though as you might have another girl one day and want to use one of them!

My niece is Darcy Isobel and is now 7. I think it's a lovely name - not at all chavy. She absolutely loves it and gets a lot of comments (positive) from people on her name. Kate Garraway had a Darcey a couple of years ago too. I think it's a really nice name and not common either.

From what I've seen online (ie... it must be true, I read it on t'internet) D'Arcy is French and definitely a family name that has been used as a boys name. It means of or from Arcy. I think this is quite different from the irish Darcy/Darcey meaning dark.

Dancingthroughlife I can just imagine the from my families but hoping that they have the same reaction that yours did in the end. I think that most people grow into their names. I certainly can't imagine either of my DSCs being called something else!

If you are going to use it then please spell correctly, D'Arcy. It's my dad's name (and a family name)!

Isabella is pretty, and Evelyn is nice too but it was my granny's name so seems old fashioned to me!

I work amongst the children of the rather well off. Darcey is well represented (as is Isabella) not chavvy at all in my opinion.

I really like the name Darcey for a girl. Not chavvy at all. I would say it's less common than Isabella/Bella which is definitely a good thing.

I know 2 Darecys under 2. Both are beautiful girls from very middle-class families. I personally associate the name with Darcey Bussell, so see it as an elegant, if slightly unusual (although becoming more popular) name.

Prefer Isabella though. Isabella Darcey is lovely. Isabella Pearl also nice.

Don't care if people think it's 'chavvy' - although there is a funny definition of 'chavvy' on MN. It doesn't matter as long as you like it.

Our other options were Georgia and Lucie. I like Pearl and Poppy off your list.

We thought Darcey looked right as the spelling, and is the female version of Darcy. As beijing says, it means Dark (lucky, as DD had lots of black hair when she was born, and has lovely olive-ish skin and brown eyes now)

Speaking of which, beijing I've just seen your other thread about DH & MIL. I had wobbles about Darcey before she arrived, but as soon as we saw her it was the perfect name. Our families weren't convinced on the name beforehand (cue catsbumface) but we didn't care, and they now agree it's perfect for her.

Darcey is nice but I LOVE Isabella and Evelyn is really beautiful :)

Also love evelyn but dislike Grace (knew an annoying one) and Pearl is very oriental to me but that's probably because lots of the local girls choose pearl as their English names.

Darcey is the female spelling. It means "dark" which may suit a girl who pops out with lots of black hair.

Really suggest you don't ask RL people their opinions on names though as people will pull a face no matter what you choose.

LOVE Isabella Darcy. Prefer Darcy without the 'e' tbh.

Lots of people on here hate it but I really like it and my fictional dd3 would be Marianne Darcy.

I love Darcey! Bussell springs to mind for me, which isn't bad at all!
