What do you think of Anneliese?

I love Anna but it doesn't seem to flow with our surname. Been thinking of names which can be shortened Annabel is out (knew an annoying one and can't get over the connection). I came up with Anneliese, I love the way it sounds. The spelling is a bit Hmm though and she'll probably end up spelling it out for everyone constantly Hmm...

I find out the sex on Tuesday anyway, I already have 3 DDs so am struggling for a girl's name. There will be under a year between DD3 and this one and she is Ava so I think I'd quite like another A name.

we have a dd called Annalise and I love it! I also love that we can call her anna if the mood takes us and I think its unusual yet pretty but then I'm biased

mathanxiety · 14/12/2010 15:05

There's Susanna or Susannah, which can be shortened to Anna...

sparkle12mar08 · 14/12/2010 10:50

Anna by itself is much classier and more classic.

Thissideofchannel · 14/12/2010 10:32

It is a very common German name for 50+ year old Germans (but hasn't got the granny chick quite yet, I'm afraid).

In German it is Anneliese (pronounced Ann-eh-lee-seh). I don't really like it. Annie is cute, though.

littlemissm · 14/12/2010 10:03

Aneliese is my middle name. so love it

perpetuallypregnant · 12/12/2010 03:33

Mostly positive then, :) thanks for your opinions. Still quite a while to go though so plenty of time to persuade DH (he's a simple being, likes Anna but I fear Annalise may be a step too out of the ordinary for him).

I wouldn't worry about the Neighbours connection (it just shows our age!). It's not a particularly negative connection and the future generations won't have a clue who she was anyway.

Katz · 11/12/2010 07:09

My DD (5) is Annalise, its a lovely name, we've not met another one.

beijingaling · 11/12/2010 05:19

Love it! Also like Anastasia. I would spell it Annalise if it were my DC.

mathanxiety · 11/12/2010 04:57

I love it, prefer the --liese spelling though. Anastasia is another nice 'Ana' or 'Anna' name.

MelinaM · 10/12/2010 22:38

Annalise Hartman Neighbours!!! I think Anna is lovely on it's own, will it really not go with your surname?! x

Valinor · 10/12/2010 10:58

DD2's mn is Anneliese so I'm slightly biased. We wanted a name to honour my grandmother Annie but since Annie didn't flow very well with our first name choice we decided to use Anneliese......I love it!

skippingturtle · 10/12/2010 10:44

I like it very much, and prefer the Anneliese spelling. I was at university with a very beautiful Anneliese, so I'm sure that's auspicious!

theagedparent · 10/12/2010 10:38

Not keen

GandalfyCarawak · 10/12/2010 10:34

I am also reminded of Annalise from Neighbours. Sorry.

Bue · 10/12/2010 10:32

I love it. It's a family name for me and I am thinking of using it one day.

StarExpat · 10/12/2010 10:18

If I ever decide to have another and it's a girl, I'm hoping Dh will let me name her Annalise. :) Beautiful

ValiumSingleton · 10/12/2010 10:09

yes. safer to spell it starting with Anne

Somebody posted about AnnaLeigh a while back. I thought they were having a larf, but I don't think they were.

belgo · 10/12/2010 10:06

Pretty name. Annelies or Annelise are the most common spellings in Belgium.

You can choose any spelling, apart from Annalice or anything beginning with Anal!

Rycie · 10/12/2010 10:04

Is a very common South African name, spelt Annalize.

ValiumSingleton · 10/12/2010 10:00

I like it. But nobody can spell it I warn you.

Have seen it written Annalice (like head lice fgs).

Anneliese spelt properly is lovely. I considered that name too.

AllieW · 10/12/2010 09:48

Not keen, sorry.

batsforlashes · 10/12/2010 09:44

Beautiful [love]

TheUnmentioned · 10/12/2010 09:23

annalise - great

(though it does remind me of the ditsy blonde from neighbours back in the day who is now in a daz advert)

Secretwishescometrue · 10/12/2010 09:20

Annalise is really lovely :)
