Billie... for a girl?

We have a Ds called Jesse, and a Dd called Ellie (she's older - it took off the year she was born... now she's starting to have issues with having a popular name).

We're expecting another little girl, and we really want to avoid popular names no matter how much we like them as we're keen to avoid the issues we're having with DD1.

At the same time I don't want anything too out there - although I like unusual names, we'd like something that fits with us as a family, and with the other Dc's names.

So what's the happy medium? Smile

Others we've considered are...

Lois
Hattie
Lila

Some more I can't remember!

I love the name Billie for a girl! Dont like Lois or Lila, Hattie is nice but quite popular as a nickname I think

Billie is really good.

It's cool and unusual but easy to say.

And though it's 'modern', for me it has history and gravitas, as I think of Billie Holliday.

I like Billie.. I think it's original and cute and a nice strong name for a girl.

I also love Lila but that's starting to become a popular name too. Some friends have just had a baby and named her Lila.

I'm not keen on Lois (something about the way in which it doesn't easily run off the tongue like the others) or Hattie which will sound quite different depending on the accent of the speaker saying her name.

Billie is a bit too boyish for my liking. LOVE Lois and it's not too popular I don't think.

YY the EE sounds have put me off a bit - it's never been our intention, just how it ended up.

Not too worried about it being short for something. I a little bit don't "get" the whole formal name on birth certificate thing. There was a poster on here once who'd given her Dc's names that had about five different variations "just in case they didn't like x,y or z" but potentially they might also not like any of those five either - where do you draw the line? Also as someone else here has recently pointed out in pretty much any very formal career choice you would be known as Miss or Mrs .....

One of my closest friends admits that she doesn't like her Ds's full name, but "it looks better on his papers". Erm looks better to who? Not you clearly. Hmm Grin

And no, the middle initial won't be B it will be P in any instance. Grin

I have a male friend calle Jesse and his sister is called Billie!

I really like Billie but feel like it should be short for something...

I like Billie, but that would mean that all your dc's names would end with an "ee" sound - which may or may not be a concern for you.

mopsy dd does have a very solid but unusual (family) middle name, so we have suggested that as an option for the future. In the meantime we're staying positive that it will wear off. It does make me smile on these threads now though when posters all gang up to suggest you're setting your child up to be bullied by giving them an unusual name, when really bullies will target any name.

Thanks for all your feedback, we're still looking at other options but Billie is going to be a strong contender I think.

I like Billie, but it is definitely a certain 'style' (Brighton?). Lois nice too, fairly popular but check last year's numbers, it's unlikely to go completely mental if it's quite low down.

I always think of Billie as a boy name. I don't wish to be rude but Jesse I think as a girl name, I suppose because of Jessica - sorry.

I like Lois and Hattie but i dislike but I dislike Billie.

I am not keen on girls having 'boys' names, such as Toni, Terri, Bobbi etc
