Why is it everywhere I go, someone is shouting one of these names at their child?

muminthemiddle · 03/12/2010 19:19

One fish- are you kidding is Bear a real name!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hear loads of Mias,Ella, Ellie plus all the Ellie-Jo Ellie_Mae combos

UQD I know what you mean as in down.

UnquietDad · 03/12/2010 19:03

Oh. maybe I didn't write it properly.

SpringHeeledJack · 03/12/2010 17:06

UQD- in what context would someone from Sheffield say 'daaaaaaaaaahn'?

[baffled]

anamaria22 · 03/12/2010 17:03

Theakston - were there really any born last year?

UnquietDad · 03/12/2010 16:57

Grimma: I hope Theakston doesn't feel too bitter!

anamaria22 · 03/12/2010 16:41

I have NEVER come across a Jayden or Kayden, and we're in Surrey. I don't particularly like the names, but he mums of Jaydan/Kayden may well not like my choice of names either.

UnquietDad · 03/12/2010 16:40

It would be hard to say I had been anywhere different or heard any different though as that would be... a lie.

usualsuspect · 03/12/2010 16:33

I like how you did a lot of vol/com work on the council estates ..maybe you should have educated us on better names for our children Wink

usualsuspect · 03/12/2010 16:31

I would say that was a stereotype UQD a bit like all the oh so trendy old man/lady names in semi detached land

OneFishTwoFish · 03/12/2010 16:28

I have never heard any of these names used round here (West London). Charlie, Harry, Felix, Sophie, Charlotte, etc. are all v common. There are 5 children under 2 on our street, Caspar, Bear, India, Ella and Mia.

ShoppingDays · 03/12/2010 16:26

That's strange UQD, I think the Sheffield accent makes those names sound better!

UnquietDad · 03/12/2010 16:23

I don't want to stereotype horribly, but when I used to teach/organise classes in the vol-com sector I did a lot of work on the council estates and... well, that was where I heard those names most of the time.... sorry (cringes)...

ShoppingDays · 03/12/2010 16:19

I've never heard anyone calling out Jayden or Kayden. Maybe if you've noticed them once, then you notice them more?

megonthemoon · 03/12/2010 16:10

'What kind of moron would call ther child Theakston fgs?'

A very peculier one (sic)

Best post i've seen all day UQD! :o

GrimmaTheNome · 03/12/2010 16:08

...or he could be the Black Sheep of the family?

colditz · 03/12/2010 16:08

baiscally, round here, you have to 'set' your face before you ask the new baby's name so you don't grimace and guffaw "But that's fucking ridiculous! You might as well have called him Norman Stanley Fletcher!"

colditz · 03/12/2010 16:05

I know a Jaydon, a Kaden, a Layton, a Mason, a Carter, a Destinee-Starr, five male and female Tylers, a Harley, two Skyes, a Harrison, two Summers ....... I could go on.

UnquietDad · 03/12/2010 16:00

These names sound really horrid in a Sheffield accent.

"Jaaaaaaaaayden, ger'ere."

"Kaaaaaaaaayden, sit daaaahn."

LaTristesse · 03/12/2010 11:49

It's an American thing - doesn't Britney have a Jayden?

We have a Brayden round our way too...

GreenButton · 03/12/2010 11:25

The names are this generations "Barry/Gary"

readywithwellies · 02/12/2010 23:31

Fran - I know a Lawson, Riley and a Mackenzie but not a Mason or a Carter. So you win Wink

The biggest thing is it seems to be the only names I hear a parent SHOUTING. So, are all shouty parents calling their dcs Kayden/Jayden or is it that dcs called Jayden/Kayden are just naughty?

usualsuspect · 02/12/2010 20:27

Lots round here ..its just a trend ..much like the Arthurs,Wilfreds and Ethels etc that seem much loved on MN

FranSanDisco · 02/12/2010 20:24

Bet you don#t have a Mason, Lawson, Carter, Riley or Mackenzie. You have to have them all and raise me another to win Wink.
