Aaaarggh.

We were definate on Kate for ages. Im only 14 weeks pregnant and if our last ds was a girl he would have been Kate so I was sure we wouldnt budge on it.

Have been looking at other names "just in case" and now I also adore Gabrielle or Gabriella. I think its stunning but am worried if I use it I'll regret not using Kate!!.

What do you think?

Grin PML.. was actually thinking of doing that earlier!!.

Oooh this is hard.. I was so so sure about Kate and now Im really confused. I know some have suggested waiting unitl baby is here but Im the type that has to be prepared and organised and would worry that I'd pick the name in a rush and make the wrong decision if I left it until the birth.

That said, (so sorry, I cant remember who) but someone said that Gabriella/e sounds like it belongs to someone dark skinned/ dark haired etc.. and I agree.

My grandmother was Spanish and my father was very, very dark skinned. Im not as dark as he was but am olive skinned and very dark haired. My dd is the image of her father, very fair skinned, light brown hair and my ds is blonde and blue eyed!! (am asked alot if Im sure they are mine Grin) it would be worth holding out possibly to see if this one does look anything like me if that makes sense, but then I know me and Ill have to have a decision before then or Ill panic. Ah.. am rambling...

Nah, you have to combine the Gabrielles with the Gabriellas surely? Grin

BarbieLovesKen · 30/11/2010 21:18

So far..

11 Gabriella
6 Gabrielle
12 Kate

So Kate has suddenly taken the lead!!!.

Thank you so much for all your help on this, Im really torn (please keep them coming though!! its soo close still and Im very indecisive so its up to you to name my baby Grin)

Alot of people have mentioned the whole Royal wedding connection but we're not in the UK (Ireland) so I dont think it matters??

Definitely Gabriella. Kate is too simple imho.

ShoppingDays · 30/11/2010 17:01

Gabby is a word for talkative.

Ormirian · 30/11/2010 17:01

I'm Kate so I'd vote for that Grin

AndHerNameWillBe · 30/11/2010 16:59

Oh and I meant to say that DH calls her Gaby (but spells it Gabby Confused), but I call her Gabriella, which I do prefer. At her birthday party, half the guests, as DH's friends and family, sang Gaby and the other half sang Gabriella! It made everyone laugh! I don't mind and pretty much any name can be shortened so I wouldn't let that put you off.

JustDoMyLippyThenWeWillGo · 30/11/2010 16:54

Gabriella

AndHerNameWillBe · 30/11/2010 16:50

Gabriella, Gabriella, Gabriella! Would you like to take a guess at my DD's name?? Grin We are constantly complimented on her name and are very proud that we came up with it! Word of warning though, if you decide to have any more children, you'll have to think of something equally as pretty if you have another DD! We're currently struggling with a name for DD2, although MNers are a great help! Smile

TerrysNo2 · 30/11/2010 16:43

I think Kate is probably going to shoot to the top of the name charts this year! if that makes a difference to your decision??

LifeOfKate · 30/11/2010 16:40

I vote for Kate :o

All lovely names, my vote is for waiting to see what suits most when they are born.

Although I would say as someone who is due at the end of April I am getting mightily sick of people "joking" that we'll have to name the baby either William or Kate Hmm

Sugarmuppet · 30/11/2010 15:35

Someone told me that in a shop yesterday, asked what DD's name was and I said Gaby. She asked if it was short for Gabrielle and why on earch do we not call her that?! Blush

If we could have decided on a spelling for Gaby/Gabi/Gabby/Gabbie/Gabbi we would have used that rather than Gabrielle.

Sorry OP I have highjacked, Gabrielle Kate is lovely imho.

5GoldenFimbos · 30/11/2010 15:31

I don't dislike Gaby. I just think that Gabriella or Gabrielle are lovely names but nobody ever uses them in full, they are always shortened to Gaby.

Sugarmuppet · 30/11/2010 15:18

Why does everyone dislike Gaby? Sad

giveussomeFIGGYpudding · 30/11/2010 14:59

Kate - definitely - classy, elegant, feminine yet strong.

Gabrielle/Gabriella - nice but a bit fussy and will get changed due to nickname potential.

Big vote for Kate here!

5GoldenFimbos · 30/11/2010 14:00

I like Kate.

She will always be Kate whereas the other names will just end up as Gabi/Gaby/Gabby.

takethatlady · 30/11/2010 13:55

Ooh Gabriella Kate. Lovely :)

MistletoeAndWhineWithMe · 30/11/2010 12:26

I was going to say Gabrielle/a Kate. It sounds really pretty together.

Mummynumber2 · 30/11/2010 12:23

When I saw this I wondered if it would be you barbielovesken Smile

I love Gabriella, it's so pretty. You could use Kate as a middle name?

Gabriella Kate ?

Also don't forget there may be a few Kates born around that time because of the royal wedding!

Beautiful names.

If you really like Kate then go for it. I'm still regretting not choosing my initial instinct name for my 17-year-old first child!

MistletoeAndWhineWithMe · 30/11/2010 12:02

I have a 7 year old called Gabrielle so I love it.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 30/11/2010 11:58

I like all of them, but I think Kate is pretty timeless and is my favourite.
