Ok so our first dd was due yesterday and weve decided to call her Anna, but we cant find a middle name, DH likes Ann Ivy, and im not sure? Ivy has no special meaning to him he just says he likes it,and i think it would be nice for her to know her Daddy took an interested and picked her name, but ive had no positive reactions to the name Ivy, my mums midle name is louise and my middle name is louise so my family keep saying Anna Louise? Im open to any name though if i like the sound or/AND meaning.

what do you guys think? any other name suggestions? or should i go with ivy/louise?

thanks

Sorry, just seen your post. Many congratulations!

Anna Cherie (if you can discount the Blair connection) is quite pretty I think.

Congratulations raspberrys ! Beautiful name! I posted before as Philly and was keeping an eye out to see what you went for! Love your choice.

I know an Anna Seraphine which I think sounds very pretty.

Anna Ivy doesn't work for me, however Anna Louise is lovely.

Anna Sophia gets my vote! I used to know someone called Ann-Sophie (pronounced with less emphasis on the So like in Sophia, she was Swedish) :)

NadiaWadia · 28/11/2010 01:24

I don't think Anna Ivy would work very well as when people say it it would tend to run together sounding like Annarivy. That usually happens when you have a first name ending in a vowel and a middle name starting with one.

BramblyHedge · 27/11/2010 17:26

I am an Anna Louise so obviously I am biased Smile

lowrib · 27/11/2010 00:18

I like the Anna Louisa suggestion too, it has a nice ring to it.

lowrib · 26/11/2010 23:46

OK, had a look at your profile (you sound nice Smile - high school sweethearts - ahhh! And hectic, mad, organised mess - sounds very familiar! Grin)

How about, for a start ...

Anna Florence (as in Florence and the Machine)
Anna Eden (as in INME "Overgrown Eden")
Anna Simone (as in Simon Neil, Biffy Clyro)

I'm meant to be studying. This is great procrastination! Really must get back to it ...

I think middle names are a great chance to use a name which has meaning for you, but which you might not choose as first name. I think it's lovely for the child if there's a bit of a story behind them.

A family name is a good one - is there a family name you might use?

Or you might use the middle name to honour a favourite writer / actor etc so that you can tell your DD the story behind her name and she may feel an affinity with them.

Or do you have any non-English cultural roots? If so you could maybe use a name from that country.

I think lots of people give their DCs the unusual name they would have given as a first name if they had the guts (Or if teasing didn't exist, perhaps). Do you have one of them up your sleeve perhaps?

I think Ivy is a horrible name. I really don't think Anna Ivy flows either.

Anna Louise is best.

Helen is my "family" name. It was my grandfather's mother's name, it is my mum's name, my cousin's middle name, my middle name and my dd's middle name.

Anna Louise works very well. I personally like Anna Claire.

Anna means graciousness, or grace of God. Claire means clear vision. A nice combination, IMO.

I'd avoid a mn that begins with a vowel as it sounds awkward. Ivy really doesn't work, or Una, Olivia, Alice, Eve etc.

Liking Anna Sophia too.

Anna Maria sounds very very Catholic/South American; but this might be what you want.

oooh Wheelybug...snap indeed!! Anna Caitlin is a gorgeous name - great taste ;) and I agree with you about the double 'a' sounds actually, although I do think Louisa is a lovely name, perhaps Louise sounds better with Anna...tricky job isn't it! But good fun too :)

Wheelybug · 25/11/2010 17:49

Ooh Philly - snap (almost) - my dd1 is Anna Caitlin as my mother and grandmother had Kathleen as a middle name.

I like the name ivy but don't like the Anna Ivy combo. Same with Louisa (don't like 2 'a' sounds) but think Anna Louise sounds good and nice to have a family connection.

growing3rdbump · 25/11/2010 17:43

ooh just read your post again - I like Anna Ivy best, but it would be nice to use your middle name as her middle name. My DD has my first name as her middle name and my DS shares a middle name with his Dad, Grandad and great Grandfather which is quite special.

growing3rdbump · 25/11/2010 17:40

My sister is Anna Elizabeth and I think it flows really well. I also like Anna Katherine, Anna Sophia and Anna Rose.

ShoppingDays · 25/11/2010 17:19

Anna Ivy would be a lovely name. Anna Louise is nice but sounds a bit dated.

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 25/11/2010 15:02

Anna Sophia is lovely

Anna Marie?

Hedwig3 · 25/11/2010 11:37

Anna Miranda

I like the sound of longer name with another 'a' ending.

Any other family names?

Whelk · 24/11/2010 20:34

Anna Rose
Anna Harriet
Anna Lucille
