Before you ask they are mostly foreign names. Are they too weird for this country or it's just in my head?

Orla
Edua
Imola
Lelle
Viola

It has to be Vivienne. Stunning name. Vivi (pronounced vee-vee) or Veni for nns.

mrsnoname · 22/11/2010 22:38

OK, so Edua is not so much of a favourite anymore Sad

Orla and Viola (twelfth night edition) are lovely. The others are not nice, sorry. I can't get past Ayrton Senna for Imola and Lelle is just plain odd.

mrsnoname · 22/11/2010 22:26

MerryM - Isla is way too popular for me, unfortunately, I'm a bit weird like that

Oooooh! I know someone called Vivienne who I have a high regard for.

Best of luck with choosing names, I now have to go back to deciding which gas supplier will offer me the best rates

KenDoddsDadsDog · 22/11/2010 22:17

Of course Bela Bartok, that's where I must have heard it from my violin playing days!

MerryMarigold · 22/11/2010 22:17

Orla and Viola are fine. I think many people have said that. You could add Isla to those names.

Lol at Lelle. I was wondering how to pronounce it!

mrsnoname · 22/11/2010 22:16

spooky... Speedy - Vivienne is already on the list. And both that and Viola we would nname Vivi

SpeedyGonzalez · 22/11/2010 22:15

How about Beata? Agnes?

mrsnoname · 22/11/2010 22:11

Thanks nonanny, I have - the only one I liked there is Agatha which is also on our list

Ahh, I see! So presumably the Turks occupied Hungary? I should remember this, I visited Budapest 15 years ago and visited the Ethnological Museum opposite the Parliament building. It was fascinating, but at the end my brain hurt! Grin

I like Biba!

Also Bibi, Mimi

I also love Vivienne.

mrsnoname · 22/11/2010 21:59

Speedy, tons of words either similar or the same in hungarian and turkish - that's what happens when your country is under occupation for 400 yrs Grin

I like Orla and Viola

mrsnoname · 22/11/2010 21:57

Ken - yes and a very old-fashioned one at that.

OP posts:
mrsnoname · 22/11/2010 21:56

catin - yes I know (unfortunately), but it also means violet in my mother tongue and is a widely used name in many european countries. If we do end up using it, I just hope I'll be able to educate the masses and get the pronunciation right: vee-oh-la

OP posts:
SpeedyGonzalez · 22/11/2010 21:55

How funny! Elma is apple in Turkish!

Ken - yes: Bela Bartok.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 22/11/2010 21:53

Is Bela a Hungarian name?

catinboots · 22/11/2010 21:51

Er hello? A viola is big violin. Weird. If you have a ds next you can call him trombone (it's like a big trumpet) :)

JimmyTarbuck · 22/11/2010 21:50

Orla - v nice
Edua - no thanks
Imola - race track where Ayrton Senna was killed
Lelle - nah
Viola - quite nice but prefer Violet

mrsnoname · 22/11/2010 21:48

Hey Speedy, thanks for the tips. I couldn't believe your choice of names though Shock, will explain below:

Edda - cannot have, there was a famous rock band called the same when I was growing up in my native country and I still have relatives there

Elma - I prefer Alma, especially as it means apple in my mother tongue

Anya - means mother in my mother tongue

... any other Hungarian-related suggestions Grin?!?
