Here's the shortlist of baby names I'm considering that I generated with Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder. Let me know what you think.

Girls
Amelia
Ava
Catriona
Dahlia
Estelle
Esther
Eva
Eve
Iris
Isla
Ivy
Lydia
Marina
Marlena
Marnie
Mathilda
Sasha
Stella

Atm, Marina or Marnie are front runners although also loking Sasha. Don't want anything too popular... Any thoughts most welcome!

travis lovey - only just seen this thread - I love Marina with nn Marnie - but I also really Like Esther, Stella and Mathilda as well as Sasha. - And in Russia - Sasha is NN for Alxandra (if that helps)
Grin Not long now eh?

SarahScot · 17/01/2011 22:39

Have you decided yet?

SarahScot · 14/01/2011 21:40

I LOVE that you love Marnie! It's what I want to name DD but DH is having none of it. I think it's traditionally a NN for Marion., but would work equally well with Marina.

Your list is very similar to my list (see thread 'Name Elimination Game) so I obviously think you've got great taste in names.

A few people have said Marnie make them think of Sarnie or Mardy - I think that must be a regional or accent thing, neither is a word I would ever use of think of.

Good luck with getting your way with 'Marnie', don't think I'm going to. Sad

gallicgirl · 14/01/2011 19:37

I like Stella but most of them are lovely.

Mind you Stella would make most people think of the beer so perhaps best to go with Estelle. Marina is lovely too and I like Lydia.

DD is Sasha so it is my favourite from your list and has always sounded feminine as opposed to masculine for me.

I also like Amelia, Isla, Iris, Ivy & Stella from your list.

JojoMags · 14/01/2011 09:01

I see Marnie and think sarnie, but maybe I'm just too food-minded!

JojoMags · 14/01/2011 09:00

Have you thought about Saskia? I think this is a lovely, unusual name and seems a similar type to some on your list.

telsa · 14/01/2011 08:45

I love Marina - also agree that Marlene (spelt that way, is very strong. Stella and Estelle or Estella are pretty. Marnie makes me think of the Hitchcock film - but is a great film! Apparently is it a nickname for Marina, anyway - so you could have two in one!.

LittlePushka · 13/01/2011 23:12

I like Sasha and Ava

You picked one yet??!!!

mathanxiety · 26/11/2010 23:33

Amelia -- nice but too popular
Ava -- nice but also very popular
Catriona -- how would you pronounce it? This is a trick question
Dahlia -- dislike
Estelle -- Love
Esther -- Love
Eva -- Love
Eve -- Love
Iris -- makes me think of Iris Robinson
Isla -- nice
Ivy -- nice but very of the moment
Lydia -- nice
Marina -- lovely but there's the coil
Marlena -- Nice
Marnie -- Dislike. Sounds like a nn for something
Mathilda -- Love. Also love spelled Matilda
Sasha -- nice but I can't get away from the thought that this is a boy's name, diminutive for Alexander in Russian
Stella -- Love, see Estelle

So my favourites are:
Estelle
Esther
Eva
Eve
Stella
Mathilda/ Matilda

and the runners up are:
Marlena (I would spell this Marlene as in Dietrich)
Marina
Lydia
Ivy
Isla

Marnie Estelle

or Marina Estelle

I personally don't like Marina - it just makes me think of a place where you park yachts.

Islandsinthestream · 26/11/2010 20:09

Estelle is beautiful.

Marnie nice but already sounds like a nn to me. It's also a name hard to grow into. I think Marnie would suit a girl who's a little bit eccentric, a bit dark, a bit serious. I think it also reminds me of the word Mardy Confused. But it does have an elegance, perhaps reflected from the Hitchcock film of the same name, Tippi Hedren chic etc.

Marina although pretty, is a bit 2-dimensional to me. A bit lightweight. Maria has more swing and sweetness.

growing3rdbump · 26/11/2010 20:07

I picked Marina or Sasha... and that's before I saw they were your favourites.

Estelle also nice.

lilly13 · 26/11/2010 19:35

here are my picks from your list:

Amelia
Estelle
Eva
Eve
Lydia
Marina
Sasha (prefer Alexandra with this a NN)
Stella

absolutely hate Matilda (think of an old maid from a village in Estonia)... sorry!

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 25/11/2010 18:12

DH says it's a place to keep boats. Angry

NB I'm not disputing it's a place to keep boats. I just want to name my next DD it anyway.

travispickles · 25/11/2010 18:08

Why not allowed it Iwouldnotcouldnotwithagoat??
Estelle can sound lovely but does it sound a bit cheap with the wrong accent?!
What middle name with Marina? Haven't gone off it yet...

There are loads of Amelias where I live. Catriona and Estelle are both lovely. Marina made me think of Stingray too, sorry!

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 25/11/2010 17:36

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Marina

I'm not allowed it Angry

ShoppingDays · 25/11/2010 17:22

I like Amelia, Dahlia, Lydia, Marlena, Ivy and Stella.

Of your frontrunners, I like Marina, then Marnie, but don't like Sasha I'm afraid.

Komondor · 24/11/2010 10:32

I live Sasha best.

Secretwishescometrue · 23/11/2010 14:58

Catriona is lovely def my favourite. Used to have a childhood neighbour called Marina she got Renie as a nn. Marnie is very American to my ears (Nout wrong with that but ya know...)

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 23/11/2010 14:19

Amelia - lovely
Ava (sadly overused - don't think anyone who can't swear they have seen at least 5 Ava Gardner films should be allowed to use it either Grin)
Catriona - don't like
Dahlia - like
Estelle - love - and Estella
Esther - like
Eva - like but overused
Eve - same
Iris - like
Isla - love
Ivy - no - Tilsley.
Lydia - like
Marina - like but makes me think of Stingray
Marlena - no but Marlene is nice
Marnie - like (Hitchcock fan though she's hardly a good role model being a klepto)
Mathilda (love)
Sasha - agree that it is boys name.
Stella - love but overused.

If I were you I'd choose: Amelia, Mathilda, Isla, Amelia or Estelle.

(NB: is your name a tribute to David Beckham saying he had a Travis Pickles haircut? If so [high five])

healthyElfy · 23/11/2010 14:13

Isla and Lydia for me too.
