after the age of about two, when they would likey notice, and you'd have to change by deed poll...

if you'd never loved their original name, and then you stumbled across the one

what would you do?
just leave it? put it in but just as a middle name,or change it altogether?

Im not trying to name bash, honest, but Sky is much nicer!! Trust me you have no regrets there! Is Tanith even a name? It reminds me in early pregnancy when I rang my hubby to say I'd found the name for our son: Tarquin. Pah! Can you imagine the lads calling that out during a game of footy?

clumsymumluckybaby · 20/11/2010 22:29

too true...

they do help you see sense when considering something utterly mental though Wink

i have already decided not to re name my daughter,so please dont start railing me now.

FWIW, those who think the kids now 'own' their names...not sure about that. Maybe we are very disrespectful in our house, but no-one gets called by 'their' name, it's all nicknames, and many of them. Ds1 has a proper name now he goes to school and they call him that at school.

scottishmummy · 20/11/2010 22:14

tanith is ghastly sounds like cleaning product.really can you imagine standing in park ^tanith, tanith yer teas ready" to howls of derision

skye is quite nice

MerryMarigold · 20/11/2010 22:14

Wissy is short for Mirissa. She was supposed to be Miri (I chose the name purely cos I liked that nn), but somehow ds1 hijacked it and turned it into Wissy. Hopefully I can gradually steer it back to Miri. It's quite a hippy name too, cos it's a lovely beach in Sri Lanka.

I'm guessing you're Louise!

evamummy · 20/11/2010 22:13

It shouldn't matter whether you or we prefer Tanith or Sky, it is about your dd being known by her name and it not being fair to change it without her consent.

clumsymumluckybaby · 20/11/2010 22:13

thinn that is a lovely,lovely suggestion.thankyou Smile

My dd gets called 'Wissy'!! Claudia is a far cry.

MerryMarigold · 20/11/2010 22:07

And not perfect bullying name at all.

MerryMarigold · 20/11/2010 22:07

I think Tanith sounds more hippyish! I like Sky actually.

clumsymumluckybaby · 20/11/2010 22:03
Smile

her name is currently sky
i wanted to change it to Tanith

it means moon goddess (she was born on a full moon.)

I'm not sure why I lack the courage to change my dd's name. We never call her by her real name anyway, but her nickname is very much a shortened form of her real name, so maybe it would be difficult for her. If you ask her name she will tell you the nn we call her.

MerryMarigold · 20/11/2010 22:01

oooh yes, do tell us...I am dying to know...

clumsymumluckybaby · 20/11/2010 22:00

he likes it,but pretty much aggree's that its to late.
(her current name was his choice though)

could you tell me why you think it would be odd (not meaning to be stand off ish, just curiousSmile

seeing as no one is being too mean.and i dont think it'd turn into namebashing.
i could tell you the names if you'd like...

What does dh think of the name? Think it would be weird to call it as a middle name/ nn...grieve away!

evamummy · 20/11/2010 21:35

I agree with Rockbird. You chose your dd's name when she was born. It is now her name and her identity, and it is up to HER whether she wishes to change her name or any other part of her identity. It would be confusing and not fair to change your 2 year old's name imo.

cupcakebakerer · 20/11/2010 21:14

Yep makes sense to me.
