Means loveable I believe.
I like it for a little girl but would it be awful for a teenager/grown woman?

It's a really nice name. Like it!

NadiaWadia · 21/11/2010 20:42

It was my Grandma's name (who would be 104 if she were still with us) so I always thought of it as an 'old lady name' but actually, thinking about it, its quite pretty, isn't it? Isabel and Annabel are very trendy right now, so why not Mabel?

Her sister was Gladys, but I don't think that's due a revival any time soon, really!

I love it- It's making it's way up my list to number one girl's name. I also love Maude, Maggie and Agatha.

Montifer · 20/11/2010 22:51

Love it, would be one of my definite contenders for a DD, but DP has vetoed it as he has a bee in his bonnet about it sounding too much like table Hmm

cupofteaplease · 20/11/2010 22:16

It's my 3 year old dd's name. She suits it very well!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 20/11/2010 22:13

I love it, know a gorgeous 5 year old Mabel!

Heifer · 20/11/2010 22:11

Sorry I really don't like it.

It seems very old fashioned to me, but more than than, it's just not a nice sounding word..

Prematureexcelsisation · 20/11/2010 21:36

My granny was mabel but considered it so hideously old fashioned she used her middle name instead. But hey ho the times they are a changing

I'm sorry, I think it's bloody horrible. And would be similarly bloody horrible on an older child or adult.

MummysLittleSunbeams · 20/11/2010 21:23

It's lovely & if you have twins they could be called Mabel & Maude! Smile

GRW · 20/11/2010 20:00

I know a 15 year old Mabel, and think it's a great name, and due for a come back.

Tamasine · 20/11/2010 19:44

Is a fantastic name, I know a 3 year old Mabel and think it's great.

typsical · 20/11/2010 12:49

Love it! I like it as a shortened form of Amabel, which means lovable and beautiful. Perfect.

Nicolaplus1 · 20/11/2010 12:21

Lovely my very dear nanan was mabel.

I considered is for my DD but would have gone with a diff spelling maybe maybel/mabelle?

Then may or belle as nn

JetLi · 20/11/2010 11:20

Thanks all - I'm getting ever so keen on it, the more I think about it Smile

Thanks LadyInPink - Mabes does sound quite grown up for when she's older.

Love it. Want to have another girl just so I can use it.

LadyInPink · 20/11/2010 11:16

I know a teenge Mabel - it has never been an issue for her. She is Mabe or Mabes for short and it really suits her. A gorgeous name!

Go for it Smile

LittleYellowTeapot · 20/11/2010 11:09

Love it. Not sure I'd be brave enough to use it though. But I do think it's a beautiful name.

BibiThree · 20/11/2010 11:05

Adore it. Think it's a beaut of a name. Also Mabli, but if you're not Welsh ...

tanmu82 · 20/11/2010 11:02

I love it, it was on my shortlist. Possibly with bella as a NN.
