Means loveable I believe.
I like it for a little girl but would it be awful for a teenager/grown woman?

I prefer Amabel, personally (think Mabel was originally a nn for this).

GooseyLoosey · 08/12/2010 11:51

Not for me. Its one of those old lady names that still sounds like an old lady name to me.

I think it's lovely. And I agree with whoever said it would grow with the child.

Chynah · 07/12/2010 23:14

My dad wanted to call me this. 40 years on I am very thankful he didn't (and yes the name he did chose is cr*p - just not quit this horrid!)

LeakMyWiki · 07/12/2010 20:42

Love it.

I know a tres cool Mabel. It's a good one.

BerylStreep · 07/12/2010 20:41

DD has a Mabelle in her class. I hadn't heard the name in years, but it is lovely, and really suits her.

BarbieLovesKen · 07/12/2010 20:33

Im really sorry but I think it is absolutely terrible. Im not sure if I can think of many names truely this awful. Very "old lady" name to me but not even a nice old lady name.

Horrible.

ThatllDoPig · 07/12/2010 16:09

I think it's gorgeous. And it would grow with the child. There would never be a day when you suddenly thought it sounded wrong, because it would just be her!

PeasPlease · 06/12/2010 10:06

I am mummy to a Mabel. DD1 calls her Mabel Table, we call her Mabs. It is my favourite girls name and the Welsh version is quite popular where we are - Mabli.

pud1 · 06/12/2010 10:03

my dd1 middle name is mabel. i love it. somethimes wish it was her first name but the reactions of some people put me off. think its a bit of a marmite name

lilmary · 06/12/2010 10:00

Back in the days that children weren't on my mind I named my car (a 1959 Morris) Mabel because I thought it was a sweet old grandma name to go with my sweet old grandma car. Now that kiddies are on the agenda I'm annoyed at myself for doing that because I like the name but can't possibly name my child after my car!

I have a nearly 3 year old called Mabel. We call her Mabes, or Mabey Baby!!

hippy3 · 24/11/2010 18:31

Love it....I love the older names anyway. I can just picture this little cutie !

ShoppingDays · 24/11/2010 14:28

I don't like it, sorry.

brillopads · 24/11/2010 10:52

Love Mabel, if I have a girl next May it would definetly be up for consideration. "May-belle" would be far to chavvy for me.

gregtheguineapig · 24/11/2010 10:46

I love it, absolutely love it!!

ZZZenAgain · 24/11/2010 10:46

I don't know if Mabel works well for a teenager. Not sure about that

Pasiphae · 24/11/2010 10:45

Marmite name, but I love it.

Komondor · 24/11/2010 10:41

I have a cousin who called her daughter Mabel, and my parents generation of the family all hate it.

I think you either love it or hate it.

Mabel under the table - it's a no from me.

TheFeministParent · 22/11/2010 16:42

For God's sake please spell it the right way!!

TheFeministParent · 22/11/2010 16:40

I have a Mabel, I love the name. I think you do have to be of a certain type of person to use it though. My Mabel is Mabel and sometimes Mabes, Maybe.

usualsuspect · 22/11/2010 16:32

Its bloody awful

cumbria81 · 22/11/2010 16:31
