Dh loves Martha, to the point where he looks slightly crestfallen if I enthuse elsewhere...

Quick poll might help...

Middle name likely to be Elizabeth...

Martha. Especially if you like all of them and your DH has his heart set on it...

specialsmasher · 20/11/2010 07:22

What an amazing response! Thanks, all. I'm happy to be so close to naming - Esther is my favourite, but I guess I wouldn't be too disgruntled if dh persuaded me to Martha...

Ooh - by the way - Martha Elizabeth would have the overall initials M.E.N. - gaffe??

Esther - fab.

washngo · 20/11/2010 00:46

All gorgeous names. Ada is my favourite!

Mousesmummy · 20/11/2010 00:39

I have both an Esther and a Martha - I would say I have heard a few Martha's out and a out in parks etc but never an Esther (if that matters to you?)
My Martha is the calm beauty whilst Esther is bolshy and confident - you can't go wrong IMO - good luck xxx

When I first read this OP I wasn't going to post my true thoughts as I was never going to dent the tide of approval you've got. However, I've surprised myself, the more I say Ada and Esther, the more I like them. It's true, they are traditional, attractive and under used. Martha however, will always conjure up images of an unattractive, pseudo-intellectual IMO. But I am v much in a minority here... And that might be how some MNs dream their DDs will be. Don't think she'll ever get a blind date though!

jaggythistle · 19/11/2010 22:27

in order of preference...

Martha (I know a nice one, she is Marth as a nn sometimes :) )

Esther

not so keen on Ada.

avaj · 19/11/2010 21:57

Like Ada best. It's a strong name & a pretty name.

nigglewiggle · 19/11/2010 21:53

Esther - fab
Martha - good
Ada - not sure

Lilyloo · 19/11/2010 21:52

Martha but then i have an almost 3 year old Martha

cuppatino · 19/11/2010 21:49

popular

cuppatino · 19/11/2010 21:46

Ada is vile-sorry-awful bingo wings type name.

Love Martha, but Esther definitely my favourite, not too popuar, very pretty and good for child and adult. Classic and timeless. Loving Esther Elizabeth.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 19/11/2010 21:44

Esther and then Martha. Not too keen on Ada for some reason.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 19/11/2010 21:37

Ooh, I like Esther, but Martha was a favourite but didn't use it as my Dads' wifes' daughter is called Martha, but now DD is here, she is not a Martha anyway.

Not too keen on Ada tbh.

SuzanneV · 19/11/2010 21:35

My second ds would have been Martha if a girl! I like Esther too but not keen on Ada.

JuanManuelFanjo · 19/11/2010 20:28

Esther is fab, definitely the one to go for IMO.

Raahh · 19/11/2010 20:23

Esther is gorgeous.

And Elizabeth is a fab middle name (mine and dd1's)Smile

pointydog · 19/11/2010 20:21

Don;t like Ada.

Martha and Esther are ok.

hester · 19/11/2010 20:19

I love them all. I think Martha is a bit more popular - I only know one little Ada - I don't know any Esthers at all, though I had a friend at school called that.

You seem to be leaning to Esther, and it is a GREAT name.

pranma · 19/11/2010 20:17

I really dislike Ada but the other two are lovely-I have a slight preference for Martha-it is such a soft pretty name

catinthehat2 · 19/11/2010 20:17

Esther all the way

BangingNoise · 19/11/2010 20:14

Martha is my middle name and I hate it! Ada is too old-lady, so Esther is my vote from the three, but I am not too keen on it either.

AvengingGerbil · 19/11/2010 20:12

Is it only my family that swore 'flamin Ada' as an alternative to 'bloody Nora'?

BelligerentGhoul · 19/11/2010 20:05

Love Martha and Esther. Love Hester even more.

Don't like Ada - it sounds v hard compared to the other two.
