what other names do you like?

I'm stuck. Still.

Getting fed up with not having a clue.

DH doesn't like Rory. He has a cousin called Rory (who he never sees - not someone he sees every day like the cat).

Grrrrrrr.......

I really like the name Angus & had been thinking it didn't matter that our cat is also called Angus, but I'm really not so sure if it'll be a problem for me or not (it's not a problem for DH, apparently).

We wouldn't be naming DS after the cat. Maybe it's 'a funny story' for the future?

But I'm in a grump and have told DH that if he doesn't even try to come up with something/some proper suggestions then I'm refusing to register the baby for 6 weeks after he's born and he can field ALL the calls from people asking what we've called him.

Rory

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 10/11/2010 21:22

So you don't want to name the baby after the cat? Or you just don't like Angus?

Rory

Got a Donald myself, I think Struan works well with that, as does Fergus.

wideratthehips · 10/11/2010 21:16

Tavish?

suzikettles · 10/11/2010 21:14

lol is your cat called Angus?

I laugh only wryly, as out cat was called Angus until we found out she was a girl, and then when ds was born we called his first teddy Angus.

If we have a second ds (I'm not pg so this is hypothetical for us) Angus is top of our name list and we've decided to just ignore the temporary cat name/beloved soft toy connection and just go for it.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 10/11/2010 19:44

Yep. Still there and now DH has sort of got fixated on the name and isn't even thinking of anything else.

I'd sort of resigned myself to it (I love the name, after all) and thought that maybe I could live with the situation, until MIL's visit at the weekend.

We mentioned that we had a really long list of girls' names still and mentioned that 'Tess' was one of them, at which point MIL said, 'You can't have Tess, you had a dog called Tessa (this was 22 years ago, mind) and your brother has a dog called Tessa' (or something to that effect). So I was glad that I didn't mention 'Angus'.

The thing is, I'm pretty certain that they haven't a clue what our cat is called, but other people know and it made me wonder if we'd have to keep justifying our choice to everyone else.

So anyway, I'm feeling a bit disheartened today. Don't really feel like we've got anything to use. And it's 7 weeks until due date. I had joked that we've got another 6 weeks to register the name after the baby is born, but can you imagine the pressure we'll get from family and friends to pick a name before that?

I think I really might cry.

Hi Light, oh dear, I see you're still in the cat quandry like ourselves! What's the latest thoughts on Angus - are you having doubts? Oh how I understand! Yes, we're still dithering over the Jasper dilemma.

suzikettles · 10/11/2010 19:20

Innes

Goalie · 10/11/2010 19:18

What about Gregor ?

Lovethesea · 10/11/2010 19:18

Murdo - means Sea Warrior and still common in Western Isles.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 10/11/2010 19:11

Hmm - sounds like are DH's are very similar.

Rufus I love - DH really doesn't (although I've tried and tried). I had previously mentioned Theo and he didn't like it until I mentioned it in passing (I know someone with one) and he said he quite likes it. The thing is, I'm not sure it sounds right with our surname. Then MIL repeated that it sounded funny with our surname and then it put DH off (helpful).

We can't use Hamish as it's DS's middle name. I think that would be a bit weird.

I really can't believe with all the names there are we've got such a short shortlist.

I'm not keen on Adam for no fathomable reason, even though it's a fine name. I'm just irrational like that.

OP posts:
Joolyjoolyjoo · 10/11/2010 17:25

What about Adam? I have a friend with a Hamish and a (brand new!) Adam!

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 10/11/2010 17:24

Trouble is, he seems to veto prety much everything.

He likes Angus though and because he likes it, he's given up thinking about any others.

He likes James (a family name) but I put my foot down about that, then he switched to Monty and settled on that. But we're not parents of a Monty, if you know what I mean.

So now it's Angus.

Sigh.
