what other names do you like?

I'm stuck. Still.

Getting fed up with not having a clue.

Congratulations! Hamish is a great name :)

Wallace · 29/11/2010 19:58

We went for Hamish! :)

I knew someone particularly loathsome called Conrad - so it's rather spoiled the name for me, I'm afraid.

I like Magnus though

Magnus
Conrad
Hector

lilibet · 17/11/2010 15:15

Can't beleive no one has mentioned Reuben.

JFly · 17/11/2010 14:52

Ah ha! Thank you.

I think another "unusual" name would balance out the group. So Lachlan would do the trick there.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 17/11/2010 14:29

sorry - should read - we have a cat called Angus!

I'm only having one (I hope) Grin.

I already have 3 DCs. We have a called Angus.

Wait, how many babies are you expecting? How many of those are animals? You must spell it out for my addled pregnant brain.

Romilly is such a pretty name. I like Lachlan with it.

treecloud · 17/11/2010 12:51

They sound fab Light! :)

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 17/11/2010 10:59

I'm still liking Angus today. I'm feeling quite positive about it - so thank you all.

I like Lachlan, too - I just know we'd end up having to pronounce and spell it all the time, and it's bad enough with DD1's name which is spelled as it sounds (Romilly) but people have a huge problem with it for some reason.

So, do you reckon Romilly, Nancy, Joe and Angus sound OK together?

Hamish has been slowly moving up my blue list..for some time.

Lachlan is an amazing name. I also like Keir or Kerr!

mooncupflowethover · 16/11/2010 21:13

Ds1 is called Angus, It's a fantastic name (I'm biased of course!). Ds2 is Euan, which goes really well with Angus (imo!). It matters not one jot that your cat has the same name, call the cat Gus as others have said.

Btw, my name is Sam(antha)...and the amount of relatives that have called their pets Sam is unreal! Grin I can live with it.

Go with Angus, it's such a lovely name.

mazzystartled · 16/11/2010 17:59

I have an Angus (DS2 6mo)

we also thought about
Louis (after a hero of dh)
Keir (middle name, after a hero of mine)
Rory
Linus
Lorcan

But Angus was the best

I'd start calling the cat Fabio. It won't mind

treecloud · 16/11/2010 15:27

Still with you Light and understanding your ongoing dilemma! Same here still, same here!

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 16/11/2010 15:17

I do call him Gus quite a bit, but when I made a concerted effort to only call him Guss, I found I kept calling his full name. Especially when he was scratching the carpet!

Do you think all the shouting will make for a nervous DS2?! Confused

OP posts:
Fimbo · 16/11/2010 14:53

I would go with Angus and start calling the cat Gus.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 16/11/2010 14:51

You see, I'm beginning to come round to Angus again - thinking that it doesn't matter that the cat's got the same name.

I do like Theo, but I know 2 at DD1's school - and while I'm not all that bothered about having an unusual/underused name for this one, I feel it's a that bit more unusual and might be irritating to the other mums who have Theos (does that make sense? (For instance, DS is called Joseph - but it's popular enough to not feel like I've use 'someone else's name' (I do know names are not copyright, but maybe you know where I'm coming from?).

And apart from my cat, I don't actually know any other Anguses - well only through other people in different regions.

AtSea · 15/11/2010 19:59

I love Douglas, my bro is called Douglas, makes for good shortenings too, Dougie, Doug, Doogie etc

sb6699 · 15/11/2010 17:06

Love Struan and Ruaraidh. Also really love Callan which hasnt been mentioned yet.

ThatllDoPig · 15/11/2010 16:34

What about Scott?

Or, someone had a thread a while ago about a Scottish ancestor they had discovered, called Eben Ramoth
Fab name!

NKinDXB · 15/11/2010 15:43

I like lots of the names mentioned here. (I like Angus too.) Did anyone say Lewis yet? Or Tobin or Torin if Toby isn't quite working for you?

Husbands are frustrating choosing names! It's a good job we're having a girl because our common ground on boys was zero.

persephonesnape · 15/11/2010 14:07

yes (sorry, just back to this..) when he's introduced people do double-take sometimes and say...'MurDER!??' with a degree of incredulity.

the thing that strikes me, is it's technically Clan Murdoch, i think(?) as in Rupert (...)

(how about Rupert??!)
