Xanthe?

DD2 due imminently and we are still v undecided on a name - any thoughts/connotations for Xanthe?

no 1 childminder - I used to want twins called Xavier and Xanthe (but, in my defence I was about 10!)

I love both names though.

Have just refound this, we didn't go for Xanthe in the end. I still love it but we knew DD would be dark, and DH was only keen on the name in passing. I do think it is very pretty though and am yet to meet one in RL.

I think you can't call her myla anymore thanks to the slutty underwear

Similar name with greek overtones is Marina which is pretty. Or Mariella.

if you and your dh love it, use it. unless she comes out with a mass of very dark hair! (means golden or blonde)

i have just joined mums net and saw this chat. Did you all call your daughters Xanthe out of interest? my little girl is called Xanthe and i love the name. although its very funny people not pronouncing it correctly, and hard work at times but its peoples opinions at the end of the day!

Also i found out recently Dominic Burns daughter of Radio 1 is called Xanthe so there is more about than i originally thought when i picked the name a year ago!

It's a fantastic name and I would be jealous if I ever met a Xanthe.

Delphi is quite cool too...

We had friends who called their daughter Xanthe & Dh said - It sounds like a Citroen. Not my view but for what it's worth .

I think it is an awful name if you intend to live in the UK. If you intend to live in Greece or Cyprus - surely, why not?? I have the same view on Elpitha, Athena, Makrina, Constandina, etc. Sorry!

Allset - exactly, would be just my like for it to suddenly soar in popularity (like Ruby did in that it went from nothing to really popular in about 5 years)!

I really like Theadora actually (nn Teddy being v sweet) but my DH has said his grumpy gran was called Dora (which I actually rather like) which rules it out.

Delphi is very pretty too! And Myla is nice although I guess the underwear connection makes it harder to choose (although I think it is nice underwear??)

God I love name discussions! Can't wait to get pregnant with no 3 and join in properly (although am bound to have another boy!!)

I mean it sounds a bit like you are trying too hard to be different or quirky. But then I tend to feel that about many names beginning with x or z.

Tamasine - this is a concern of mine whtever we choose, when we had DD1 we gave her a name that was pretty and unusual and it has since rocketed in popularity
We have also considered Thea and while we both like it we don't love it
DH likes Josie, I am not sure
We both really liked Myla, but now concerns over underwear and sex toys connotations
I really like Xanthe, and Delphi actually, but DH is less keen on it this morning than he was yesterday - he thinks too unusual

I think that it is a lovely name.

If you look here: baby names

at the statistics for 2009, it was the 664th most popular name, with 55 babies being called Xanthe, so popular on mumsnet, but a long way off being a 'Ruby'

It is a gorgeous name and is no1 on my list if we have a girl next time.

My only concern is that it seems to be getting more and more popular - I wouldn't really want it to do a "Ruby"....
