Baby names for twins (when you have 12 other DC)

zippy101 · 09/11/2010 17:14

I need advice, for the first time ever I am stuck for baby names. I have 12 other children and my dh is less than helpful when it comes to names.
We know our twins are non-identical but don't know the sex so need 2 girls names and two boys names!

My ideas for girls so far are - Clara, Amelia, Mhairi , Willow , violet but don't like vi as nn, and scarlet.
For boys- Edward, Alexander, Joseph, Finley and that's about it.

Open to suggestions! :)

Hi, I'm new here! Absolutely love all of your names! I have an Oliver :-) Oliver River.
Please don't think that Kate is plain!! I think it is perfect and so so pretty!! Totally goes with your other names.
My favourite names at the moment are: GIRLS -

Adalyn (nn Addy)
Mabel (maybe a shortened version of Amabel which means lovable and beautiful, but a bit too similar to Izabella)
Emmeline (Emmy)
Imogen (Immy)
Twins:
Amelia and Amabel (Millie and Mabel)

BOYS -
Isaac or Zak (meaning laughter)
Elijah
Samson
Somerby (fancy I know, but I love it!)
Sebastian (Seb)
Seth
Jonah/Jonas

Good luck x

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 12/11/2010 04:26

sorry accidentally c&p bit of OP at the end there. gaah need sleep!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 12/11/2010 04:26

Please don't use Emmet if he's ever likely to visit Devon/Cornwall. It's a rude word for tourists (means "ants") and I have spent time in Cornwall with an Emmet and everyone PTSL. Just a thought.

What about Katarina? Or Catriona? with Kate for short.

Lydia is nice and would go with your others. Or Cecily?

From the options you mention I like Clara, Violet (Lettie?), Scarlet, Edward, Alexander and Joseph.

Clara, Amelia, Mhairi , Willow , violet but don't like vi as nn, and scarlet.
For boys- Edward, Alexander, Joseph, Finley and that's about it.

I love Kathleen.

Caitlin?

Hannah?

Aren´t Izabella & Elizabeth the same name?

Also like Amelia & all your boys names in OP except Finlay.

nooka · 11/11/2010 05:26

If you like Kate but think it a bit plan the obvious choice would be one of the Katherine/Kathryn/Catherine/Kathleen variants. Which gives your dd Kate and also some other nice nn options.

jewelsforxmasplease · 10/11/2010 19:07

kate is not boring it is a beautiful and classic and equally as pretty as isabella and sophia, i dont have one but may one day! and we may have a future queen kate who is stunning!! or you could use claudia which i adore as its dd2's name

Rhubarbgarden · 10/11/2010 18:35

I love Fleur. I wanted it for dd but dh vetoed it. Said it was pretentious. I disagree.

3nearly4 · 10/11/2010 17:15

Clara or Violet are both lovely!

I have a Finlay so will pick that from your list. Really don't like it spelt with the e though I must say!

sobloodystupid · 10/11/2010 16:38

Evie for Evangeline, I think. I think Fleur is lovely, but then I am a huge Francophile Smile. I adore Charles Laurence as a name but you can have it, 'tis my gift to you Wink.

mattahatta · 10/11/2010 15:13

I like Fleur, all the Fleurs I have known have been confident and successful, but I suppose it depends whether you believe a name can influence a persons character.

canyou · 10/11/2010 12:41

Zippy you dc are due an my bday and I am an identical twin.
I love your names they are fab esp as the registrar had to side with my Dad are refuse to use the names my Mum choose,
Polly and Anna or April and Averil we were called after our Grandmothers. We love our Dad for taking a stand Grin
Fleur is nice

zippy101 · 10/11/2010 12:35

mattahatta- maybe you are right, I do really like Kate but it may be a little plain compared to my other girls names.

sobloddystupid- Evangeline is pretty, what is the nn for that? Emmet is nice too. Laurence is my dh's name!

Not to keen on martha, but Elizabeth is nice and very versatile.

mattahatta suggested French/ Italian names, I like alessia and Gabriella but think Gabriella is a bit similar to Izabella as she is called Bella alot so want to avoid names ending in ella really. I like Sasha but this is my niece's name. Not too keen on the others.

What are people's thoughts on Fleur?

sorry just noticed you have a Sophia. Blush. I like Evangeline and Emmet (Irish boy's name), Laurence and Martha, Martha and Elizabeth, I'm trying to cover all combinations Smile

mattahatta · 10/11/2010 11:37

just going on the fact that your current girls tend to have french/ Italian names how about Gabrielle/ Gabriella or Dominique?

or even alessia, nicole, danielle/a, simone, sasha,

I think Kate is alittle bit boring compared to all your other children's names, I dont think she'll be happy with you about that choice when she grows up, especially as her sisters have great pretty names like Juliet,Isabella and Sophia

zippy101 · 09/11/2010 21:12

stressheaderic- no these will be my first set of multiples. Yes they are popular names now, Madeline was my favourite name since I was a little girl. And my husband chose Sophia and we both just loved Felicity.I think Thomas, Benjamin and Juliet are classic names and are always around. The rest have been born in the last 6 years so the names were quite current when I picked them.

I think Mhairi is a no go now. I'm not Scottish so...!

Kate is definitely growing on me I mentioned it to dh and he liked it too so I think this is maybe a definite!

sobloodystupid- I am due 16/04/2011 so have a while yet!

Kate and Amelia
Alexander and Joseph
Alexander and Kate

sobloodystupid · 09/11/2010 20:28

Wow! Congratulations! I love Joseph and Linden (too much Holby? Never!). Kate and Holly (when are you due?). Edward and Sophie (too royal?)

GingerGlitterGoddess · 09/11/2010 20:22

Unless you are scottish of course in which case I would guess it would be more widely recognised :)

GingerGlitterGoddess · 09/11/2010 20:21

Mhari is my middle name and I LOATHED having to explain it when I was younger "it's Gaelic, the m and the h make a v, yada yada yada"

stressheaderic · 09/11/2010 20:19

Do you have other multiples? Your 12 names are all very current considering that they must date from the last 12 years at least.

I like Kate too. And Catherine.
Congrats.

mattahatta · 09/11/2010 20:18

I like Amelia for a girl, would have to choose willow as second choice from your list.
Love Alexander and Joseph, but really do notlike the name Finlay- sorry but so many of them around!

anonymousbird · 09/11/2010 20:15

Kate is great, Willow is truly awful.

Otherwise, no strong feelings, it's a good list. You have 12 great names so far, don't cock it up with something silly now?!?!?

Mhairi I love, but you have to "know" it to avoid pronouncing and spelling it your whole life (do you really want to put your poor kid through that????)

Oh and congrats BTW!!!
