I knew one, but it was pronounced vye-da.

brimfull · 04/11/2010 20:05

no
awful

FoxyRevenger · 04/11/2010 20:04

I like it! Also like Vada and Mhairi (pronounced Vari in Scotland - although not always)

BendyBobbingApples · 04/11/2010 10:18

Oh yes I like it!

Reminds me of that fab black and white film with Joan Crawford in it 'Mildred Pierce' - there was a Veda in that iirc.

MamaLazarou · 04/11/2010 10:13

I like it a lot.

MelinaM · 04/11/2010 01:47

Matthew Mcconaughey and Camilla Alves daughter is called Vida (pronounced Vee-da), very popular in South America so not totally unheard of! Beautiful name, if you like it go with it! x

mamakoukla · 04/11/2010 01:16

I think it's from sanskrit and means divine knowledge or wisdom. I met a Vida once who told me this. Different but as some have mentioned, maybe think about the cultural background the child will be raised in.

ZuzuandZara · 04/11/2010 00:37

Very cool. I know a 30ish year old Vida. Not sure of spelling but pronounced veeda.

Rocketbird · 02/11/2010 22:02

Ricky Martin...

GeorgeOsborne · 02/11/2010 22:01

I prefer Vita for life, but Vida good too

SkylineDrifter · 02/11/2010 22:00

I like it. The main character in a book I just read (Second Hand Heart, get it in Tescos) was called Vida.

teafortwo · 02/11/2010 20:52

Hmmm, yeah - it is nice... I'd say cute for a girl, cool for a teenager and very sexy for a woman. What more could a girl ask for from a name???

PurpleKate · 02/11/2010 20:46

My great aunt was called Vida (shortened from Davida), pronouned Vee-da, and she was an amazing feisty woman. Go for it.

mummyrex · 02/11/2010 19:53

sorry, I also thought of a disease...

bensonbutnohedges · 02/11/2010 19:33

How would you pronounce it? There was a girl at my school called Vida to rhyme with spider, whereas I always think Veeda.

Tidey · 02/11/2010 13:25

Reminded me of Veta from the film Harvey for some reason. Vida does look a bit cleaning producty. Sorry.

scubamummy · 02/11/2010 13:23

like

christabell · 02/11/2010 12:58

It makes me think of VD, which would put me off a bit. Vita is slightly better, though does sound like a combination of Rita and Vera, hence very Coronation Street! Sorry to be a bit negative.

lilly13 · 01/11/2010 21:28

i think it is too simple... never heard this name. if it has a family and/or cultural significance to you, then definitely go for it!

Faaamily · 01/11/2010 20:53

Never heard the word used as a name before, but I like it. Vita is nice, too.

Silkstalkings · 01/11/2010 19:46

Prefer it to Vita which sounds so chemical/biological.

Tillyscoutsmum · 01/11/2010 19:15

My hair salon is called Vida ...

Sounds a bit too much like Vera for my liking

GiganGORE · 01/11/2010 19:14

i went to school with a girl named wida, it was pronounced Vida.

to me it isn't unusual.

I think she was iranian

hester · 01/11/2010 19:13
